Super Junior came back strong with “Mr. Simple” after not being on the KPOP music scene for over a year. Those whacked out, colorful concept photos were not seen in their music video for “Mr. Simple”, so it’s not surprising that we don’t see those simple, camera-taking idols in the MV. Instead, we are treated to some more hotness. But let’s see if “A-CHa” is just as good as “Mr. Simple”, shall we?
The music video. Hiya, boxes of SM. Seems like you’ll be making an appearance every time now, eh? Well, with the exception of “It’s You” and “No Other”. I mean, I don’t mind the simplicity, but really? You get shots of the boys dancing, close-up shots, some weird robot mirrored images a la SNSD’s “Visual Dreams”. And don’t get me wrong - while I don’t mind seeing how hot they can get, I just want to see some more story MVs from Super Junior. Oh, I just realized it: it also reminds me of “Sorry Sorry”. And “BONAMANA”. And Super Junior-M’s “Perfection”. But it’s all dancing. With the guys smirking every now and then.
The dance/choreography. One of the things that I’ve always been impressed about Super Junior is their dancing. I especially love their footwork in their dancing. If I recall correctly, their more recent dances involve quite a bit of footwork, subtle moves. However, they also tend to move their arms around a lot, which causes a lot of attention to be drawn to the arm movements.
The song. I’ll be frank: I still haven’t gotten used to this song. Sure. It’s catchy. A bit addicting. But it’s still part of the SJ Funky. I thought this song would have a different sound to it. In fact, I’m not sure if I will ever really like the song. Sad, but true. I really do wish that their follow-up song would be somewhat like “It’s You” or “No Other”. Guess I won’t see that for a while.
Thoughts. I was disappointed by this music video. It seems like SM Entertainment didn’t put much thought behind this music video. I think their mindset was more along the lines of, “Oh hey, let’s give them yet another boxy background set, dress them up in hot outfits, let them smirk a bit, and we’ll focus on other groups.” Why? Because ELFs will pretty much do anything to support Super Junior. ELFs, did you really stop to think for a second about this MV? It’s going to be their last MV for a while. Pretty much. You would think SM would put a little more thought into this MV. But no. As the last parting gift, I’m given a music video with guys in hot outfits and some weird scenes where I see a close-up of one guy and another guy diminished in the background…creeper alert! Come on, SM. You can do so much better than this. Stop being so cheap. I love Super Junior and all, but no, this MV doesn’t cut it for me. Really.
Overall Rating. 3.8/5
