The International Secret Agents concert in Los Angeles organized by Wong Fu Productions and Far East Movement was just hosted on Saturday, October 1 in Long Beach, California. I am very lucky to have gotten to enjoy the amazing 14 artist line-up, so I will share my experience with you all!
Gates were supposed to open at 1:00PM, so I arrived at 12:40PM to make sure I got in so I could meet the artists, but even though I got there early, the line was already about 20 to 30 yards long! I heard from someone later that people actually started lining up at 8AM in the morning, which is pretty crazy because that’s even earlier than when I woke up this morning.
First of all, the show was hosted by Cathy Nguyen, Kevin Wu (aka kevjumba), and Ryan Higa (aka nigahiga). The emcee from afterschoolspecial, DANakaDAN, really ended up being the one announcing the artists towards the end, but he also did a better job.
After getting in, the first performance by girl group Blush began at 2:40PM although the official starting time of the concert was supposed to be 3PM. They started the concert with “Undivided” and another song before giving up the stage to the next performer, afterschoolspecial. No, not the Korean girl group After School. I mean afterschoolspecial, the Youtube group, and they sang/rapped to their song “Dreamers“. DANakaDAN seemed pretty pumped about their performance!
Next up was New Heights, singing 3 songs. They started off with their rendition of Leona Lewis’ “Bleeding Love” and then sang 2 of their original songs, “Peaches” and “Take Me On“, which are both really good songs! I just heard about them this week, and they have already made their way into my top played playlist of this week, so you should definitely check them out. You won’t be disappointed! They also just recently released a new album titled “Something to Believe In”, which “Take Me On” is from. Clara Chung was also featured in New Height’s most recently revealed music video for “Take Me On”, and Clara was the next performer. She sang 3 songs as well, including “Camels” and “Offbeat“.
After Clara came a rap act by Timothydelaghetto, the Youtube comedian. He rapped to two songs, but I am not sure if they are original songs or just parodies of other songs because the first one was about Selena Gomez, and the second one used the instrumental of “American Boy” by Estelle and was about dating Asian guys. Instead of the line “You’ll be my American boy”, he sang “I can be your first Asian boy.” If you’ve ever seen his videos before, you know that he has an obsession attraction to Selena Gomez, so the first rap was pretty much expected. As a Youtube comedian, I guess he had to make this rap lyrics funny, so in the second song, he mentioned “I swear we don’t all look alike”, “my aunt does nails”, and “all our houses got karaoke”. To introduce the next performance, Best Friends Crew members Kevin Wu and Ryan Higa had a mini dance battle with special guest, Kevin’s dad. Guess who won? Kevin’s dad, of course! I.aM.mE Crew, the champions of ABDC Season 6, were up next, and they just danced to a medley of songs including “Feel Like Money” and “Moves Like Jagger”.
B.o.B performed after I.aM.mE Crew, singing a bunch of songs including “Nothin’ on You” featuring the audience instead of Bruno Mars, “Airplanes“, and his most recent single “Strange Clouds“. His act was no doubt the most well received of the first half of the show.
After the 30 minute intermission at 5PM, Dumbfoundead started the second half of the lineup with “Are We There Yet” and then a couple more songs and even some free-styling! I was really impressed with his performance, and I really enjoy listening to his songs. AJ Rafael followed Dumbfoundead with 4 songs: “Emma Watson“, “Without You“, “We Could Happen“, and “When We Say (Juice Box)“. Then, there was a special short performance by special guest Jennifer Chung, who sang a snippet of Alicia Keys’ “If I Ain’t Got You”.
Next up was one of my favorite Youtube artists, David Choi! He played with an entire band today, and they started off with “That Girl” and then played 2 songs from his upcoming album “Forever and Ever”, which will be released on October 25. The two songs were called “This and That is Life” and “Underneath Your Love”. The songs were both very pretty, and I am excited for his album to come out so that I can purchase it! The last song he played was a slower and softer version of “By Your Side“.
“This and That is Life”
Before the show began, I also got a chance to ask David a little bit about this new album, and he says the songs in this album will be uptempo and with a overall happier vibe, in contrast to his previous album and songs, which people said seemed to be more emo. I also got to ask him a fun question about what embarrassing songs someone might find on his iPod, and he said that he likes all the music on his iPod, but the ones people wouldn’t expect him to have are Britney Spears, Jessica Simpson, and Mandy Moore songs. He said he does enjoy pop as well and “they’re not songs I listen to all the time, but, you know, occasionally there are times when I want “Candy”.”
The scheduled act after David Choi was Wong Fu Productions, but before they came on the stage, there was a special performance of “Nice Guys” featuring special guest chestersee! Then, Wong Fu came on stage, and they didn’t perform anything, of course, but they showed us a video they filmed in one day and edited in one night that they were preparing to show once they hit 1 million subscribers on Youtube. The video was hilarious, of course, but there is a possibility that it won’t ever get put on Youtube if they don’t reach 1 million subscribers, so if you haven’t already, go subscribe to them on Youtube! They also taught the crowd how to make the Wong Fu hand signal, which is just basically making two peace signs facing yourself, and touching the tips of your middle fingers together.
After Wong Fu’s video, the highly anticipated Jay Park performed “Abandoned” and some covers of some pop songs, including “Down”, “U Got it Bad”, “6 Foot 7 Foot”, and a freestyle he previously uploaded on Youtube. He also brought up his fellow AOM crew members and they each showed off some moves, which really impressed the audience.
Jay’s performance didn’t feel long enough, but the show went on, so Far East Movement came on next. Their act was by far the longest and most energetic performance of the night. They sang to a bunch of songs including “Girls on the Dance Floor“, “If I Was You (OMG)“, “Like a G6“, “Go Ape“, and “Rocketeer“. It was one of the performances I enjoyed the most, and Kev Nish is VERY good at hyping up the audience. During one of the songs, Prohgress tried to crowd surf right in the area where I was standing, but it didn’t work out so well because most of the people were girls and totally didn’t expect it (he kinda landed on my head) and he tried it again in a different area of the crowd, and at the end, he, Kevin, and Ryan walked around the crowd, giving hugs to random audience members.

Far East Movement was the only other artist I got to interview a bit before the show started. I first asked them about what other artists they would like to tour with, after having toured with big names like Lil’ Wayne, Lady Gaga, and Mike Posner, and they responded with Daft Punk and LMFAO, whom they toured with before already and will be touring with again for the Cherrytree Pop Alternative Tour this November. I also asked them what advice they would give to people who would also want to be like them and enter the music scene. They said to just follow your heart and do what you do best. It doesn’t require having a big budget or having connections. You just need to do it yourself. During the concert, they told the audience a little bit about how they began their music careers by roaming the streets of Hollywood, handing out CDs of the music they made, trying to spread their music to people, and now they’ve finally made it big, and I think they totally deserve it! They seem like really cool and inspirational people.
The final act of the night was the one and only Sean Kingston, who recently just recovered from a jet skiing accident, but no worries! He was in good health for the performance and ended the day well with some of his most popular songs including “Me Love“, “Letting Go“, “Take You There“, “Beautiful Girls“, “Fire Burning“, and his newest song, “Party All Night (Sleep All Day)“.
This was definitely a night to remember! The concert was amazing, and I loved every single artist in the lineup. I was also exposed to a lot of new music that I haven’t heard before but am now very interested in. The show was also a big marker in ISA history, since it was the biggest event ISA has had in its 4 years. If given the opportunity again, I would definitely attend no matter what.
