On the 19th of October, MBC’s ‘Radio Star’ released a broadcast which tread on some daring waters. The MCs asked the members of Kara what they believed was the reason for their success and popularity in Japan.

Bluntly, the MCs asked, “We heard that KARA is more popular than both SNSD and 2NE1 in Japan, why do you think that is?”

Leader Gyuri answered, quite carefully, “There’s probably a variety of reasons. SNSD and a lot of other girl groups are also receiving a lot of love in Japan, but they say that our popularity is higher. We’re actually not sure of the reasons ourselves.”

Goo Hara added that another reason is due to their proficiency in the Japanese language, and stated, “We don’t have an interpreter with us when we go on variety shows.” In return, the MCs asked, “Kind of like Ida Daussy in the past then, right?” Another commented, “So you’re basically a group with five Ida Daussys.”

Just so that you know, Ida Daussy is a French woman who moved to South Korea in the early 90’s after she married a Korean and became a celebrity due to her amazing Korean skills.

After lots of fun and laughter, the girls stated, “We also adjust to new locations / adapt to new environments really fast. We could probably survive no matter where you place us.”
