The 2011 Melon Music Awards will be held this year on November 24th and voting for the awards has begun. Melon revealed the list of its Top 30 nominees, which include the likes of Super Junior, DBSK, BEAST, BIG BANG, 2NE1 CNBLUE, 2PM, GD&TOP, INFINITE, miss A, IU, G.NA, f(x), T-ara, 4minute, Davichi, 10cm, Kim Bum Soon, Park Jung Hyun, Huh Gak, Girl’s Day, and others. However, one big name was glaringly absent from the list.
JYJ doesn’t appear in this list, even though they have not only sold 300,000 copies of their first official Korean album “In Heaven” without the help of promotions, but they were also named as Melon’s September Music Artist of the Month. Their absence has caused netizens to question why they weren’t included and SM Entertainment is now facing criticisms of being involved.
Because JYJ is still embroiled in a heated dispute with SM Entertainment, music shows fear the wrath of SM Entertainment. If JYJ were to appear on a show or even win an award, SM Entertainment could very well pull their popular artists and not attend the events, which would cause a huge blow to those shows.
In addition, the Melon Music Awards made an official announcement towards this all: “The Top 30 were determined by the amount of streaming (40%), downloads (50%), mobile (10%) on Melon… They were determined by the precise data collected, and JYJ did not make the top 30 from those data.”
I think this is beyond ridiculous. However, if what MMAs claims to be true, then it seems that JYJ didn’t have enough digital downloads or streaming. But then, some of those artists up there didn’t seem to have the same either, so we’ll just have to wait and see.
Perhaps SM didn’t want JYJ and DBSK to meet?
