2011 KPOP Music Fest. In Sydney Recap: Videos and Pictures

On the 12th of November, twelve amazing KPOP idol groups came down to Sydney, Australia for the 2011 KPOP Music Festival. After finding about the event earlier this year, Australia fans have been going crazy and when the actual event happened, the fans got even crazier, some even fainting.

I arrived at the venue at 10am but the line for my gate already had 70+ people. While everyone was lining up, there were small events happening in the vicinity such as dance performances, flashmobs, Korean games and even free ramen cups but of course you had to cook them yourselves.

Waiting for the gates to open (5pm) seemed long and somewhere at the 3:30pm, everyone in the line decided to just stand up and move forward. The security guards had to take action and widen the barriers as well as yell at the fans to sit down.

At 5pm when the gates finally opened, everyone stood and went crazy. The fans pushed until you had to no space to move your upper limbs, I literally felt like I couldn’t breathe at all. Everyone was pushing and shoving and even if you fell, you’d get left behind or stared at.

Finally, we got in the concert and had another 2 hour wait before the concert started. I couldn’t see the stage very well so I moved to the back. It was further from the stage but at least I had fresh air. There were also big screens around the stadium where you could watch the stage like you were actually in front of it.

10 minutes before the concert started, a countdown appeared and the fans were screaming. The countdown had footages of the KPOP artists that were going to perform and each one of them had loud cheers. When the concert started the whole stadium rocketed - I didn’t expect so many fans.

SNSD’s Tiffany and Yuri were the hostesses for the evening, both looking nervous yet angelic while greeting their Australian fans. SHINee were the first to perform. They had an awesome dance introduction before “Lucifer” and then performed “Hello” and “Ring Ding Dong” with a small introduction at the end. Fancam belongs to the rightful owner.

miss A were the next performers and stunned fans with “Goodbye Baby” and “Bad Girl Good Girl“. They also had a small introduction in between and they even spoke English! They tried to hype up fans by asking them to dance “Bad Girl Good Girl” with them, I found that totally adorable. Fancams belongs to rightful owners.

SISTAR came out next in sparkling purple dresses. They performed, “So Cool“, “How Dare You” and “Ma Boy“. The whole standing audience were literally just body rolling during “Ma Boy“. Fancam belongs to rightful owner.

2AM were the first performers of the night to start their stages on the second stage instead of the main stage. They performed “Can’t Let You Go, Even If I Die“, “You Wouldn’t Answer My Calls“, and “This Song“. Fancam belongs to rightful owners.

Next up was a special stage featuring SNSD’s Sooyoung, Hyoyeon, Yoona, and Yuri and SHINee’s Taemin and Minho. The dance battle was similar to the one performed at various SM Town concerts. Sorry, couldn’t find a decent fancam or photo so I guess you’ll have to wait till the broadcast!

Next up was Secret! They came out in hot black-and-pink outfits and started off their stage with “Love Is Move“. They then performed “Madonna” and ended off with “Starlight Moonlight“. Fancam belongs to rightful owner.

Another special stage now. This time it featured 2AM’s Jo Kwon and Changmin, 4minute’s Gayoon, and SISTAR’s Hyorin. These four idols performed Beyonce’s “Halo” and stunned fans with their amazing vocals.

Now it was BEAST’s turn to wow fans. They came out in grey suits and started off their staged with the dance intro to “Mastermind“. They then performed, “Shock“, “Fiction” and “Beautiful” respectively. Hyunseung had his poker face on during all performances and Junhyung’s microphone made his voice sound really high.
