Film Independent along with the Los Angeles County Museum of Art will be hosting a film exposition this Saturday, November 26, with a spotlight on Hayao Miyazaki’s Studio Ghibli.
The schedule goes like this:
4:30 PM - Castle in the Sky (25th anniversary)
7:30 PM - Spirited Away (10th anniversary)
Both films will be shown in color and in Japanese, with English subtitles, at the Bing Theater.
For both screenings, tickets will cost $10 for general admission, $7 for LACMA members, seniors, and students, and $5 for Film Independent, LACMA Film Club, and New York Times Film Club members.
You can purchase tickets here.
Here’s a little excerpt from LACMA’s official site on Studio Ghibli, for those who haven’t heard of Japanese animation and film studio:
“Founded in 1985 by directors Hayao Miyazaki and Isao Takahata and producer Toshio Suzuki, Japan’s Studio Ghibli has produced some of the most renowned animated films of all time. Almost always told from the wondrous point of view of an itinerant child, a Ghibli film infuses its dazzling vistas, fantastical folklore and spectacular adventures with deeply-felt emotions and adult concerns. A legend in his home country, Miyazaki has helmed Ghibli’s biggest hits, along the way becoming an international icon of visionary filmmaking whose mind-bending spectacles enthrall audiences of all ages.”
