Every year, South Korea brings us a new batch of great dramas to enjoy. This year was no different as we were presented with a variety of dramas that either had us laughing until it started to hurt or crying until our eyes became red and puffy. In order to have great dramas, however, you need to have good directors, a cooperative staff team, and of course actors. Without good actors, the drama becomes dull and even annoying, which is why great actors are so sought after by drama producers. Lets take a look at which actor was the Best Actor of the Year.
1. Hyun Bin (Secret Garden)

Hyun Bin took on the role of an arrogant and eccentric CEO, named Kim Joo Won, in one of the most popular dramas of the year, “Secret Garden“. Kim Joo Won is a perfectionist and has an ego that makes him believe he can get whatever he wants. Although some may find his character annoying at first, Hyun Bin plays the character flawlessly and we eventually find ourselves falling for him when we discover that he is actually a very sensitive and sweet person. Hyun Bin brings us yet again another great drama through his great acting.
2. Lee Min Ho (City Hunter)

Having already amassed a large fanbase thanks to his previous works, “Boys Over Flowers‘” and “Personal Taste“, Lee Min Ho did not disappoint his fans with his performance in “City Hunter“. Lee Min Ho bravely took on the role of Yoon Seung, a secret detective who was taught by a strict father to be cold and heartless, and nailed it as he perfectly portrayed a charismatic and butt-kicking male lead. We can see Lee Min Ho improving in every drama and it’s great to see him stepping out of his comfort zone to take on different roles each time.
3. Kim Soo Hyun (Dream High)

From the accent of a country bumpkin to the portrayal of one, Kim Soo Hyun had it perfected in “Dream High” as the character named Song Sam Dong. Song Sam Dong lives in the country side where he first encounters Go Hye Mi (miss A’s Suzy) and falls in love with her. He then follows her to the city and discovers his passion and talent for music. Being cast in a drama filled with popular idol stars, Kim Soo Hyun held his ground and won over the hearts of viewers with his sweet and caring personality.
4. Park Shi Hoo (Princess’ Man)

Park Shi Hoo rose in popularity thanks to his role as Kim Seung Yoo in “Princess’ Man“. Although kind-hearted at first, a series of unfortunate incidents led him to become a man of murderous intent for the people who killed his family. Park Shi Hoo was able to transform into two completely different people within episodes of the drama, and had the viewers’ hearts wretched over his dramatic change. He was able to make viewers happy when his character was smiling, and depressed when his character was sad. Through his acting, Park Shi Hoo successfully bewitched the heart of women.
5. Yoo Seung Ho (Warrior Baek Dong Soo)

Although not the lead male actor in “Warrior Baek Dong Soo“, Yoo Seung Ho portrayed his character so well that many found themselves rooting for him instead. Yoo Seung Ho plays the dark and tragic role of Yeo Woon, a boy who was fated to walk the path of darkness. His character constantly struggles to fight off his cursed fate, but unfortunately, was unable to walk away from becoming an assassin. Although he becomes the ‘bad guy’, Yoo Seung Ho made viewers realize that his character still has a kind heart and desires to break free from his cruel destiny. His pain inflicted pain in the hearts of viewers who all wished to see him happy. Yoo Seung Ho acted flawlessly in this drama, and we’re looking forward to his next project.
And the Best Actor of the Year award goes to…
Hyun Bin (Secret Garden)!
It’s difficult to portray such a comical and sophisticated character like Kim Joo Won, but Hyun Bin left no room for criticisms. He portrayed the complicated Kim Joo Won so well that it’s hard to imagine any other actor taking on the role.
Do you agree with the results? Are there any other actors you think deserve to be recognized for their acting this year?
