While some artists are used to being in groups, others have either moved into the solo industry or have started in it. Obviously, it takes a lot more out of a person to have to work so hard and stand on a stage alone. However, despite the sometimes difficult circumstances, these entertainers do just that: entertain. Here are the 5 nominees for Best Solo KPOP Act of the Year:
G.NA
This Korean-Canadian beauty has stunned everybody this year by releasing her first full length album which showcased her amazing vocals. Her hit song Black & White made waves and she was even featured on a track by Hyuna. G.NA keeps on getting more and more comfortable performing and has pursued to release yet another mini album this year. With looks and talent, this girl isn’t leaving us anytime soon!
IU
She may be young, but IU has a voice that can cure you of any sadness. Her talent was highly recognized in 2011, as she starred in Dream High and recorded a song specially for it. She also composed and recorded an OST for Hold My Hand. IU released her second album this year, Last Fantasy, and almost all 13 tracks swept through the charts. She may have been a busy bee this year, but that hasn’t stopped her from always showing the world her best.
Jay Park
Although Jay Park will always be thought of as the leader of 2PM, he has made a name for himself this year and is letting people focus on his talent rather than previous controversies. This year, he played a lead role in Mr Idol and released a mini album, Take a Deeper Look, which served as his official return to Korean entertainment. He also surprised many with his amazing voice as he became a permanent performer on Immortal Song 2 and has since been participating in many international concerts. Way to make a comeback!
Kim Hyun Joong
As a member of SS501, 2011 marked the year that Hyun Joong started his solo career on the side. He released his first mini album, Break Down, which became an instant hit and has been certified platinum. His popularity became so overwhelming that a concert was needed and he held his first nationwide concert in Japan. Hyun Joong has also released his second mini album this year and was named the best male solo artist at the MAMAs. He may be new to the solo industry, but he sure is rocking it.
Tablo
This rapper may be best known for being a member of Epik High, but this year Tablo returned and continued his solo career which had a six year hiatus. Although he has not been all over the place, he has definitely made some news as he released 2 parts of his album Fever’s End in 2011. His songs are known for being meaningful and touching, since he composes them himself and uses his music as an outlet. This looks like the beginning of a long, successful solo career.
These 5 nominees are all great, but only one nominee deserves to be the winner of Best Solo KPOP Act of the year. The winner is IU! This young songbird has accomplished a lot this year, from releasing her second album to acting in one of the most popular dramas of the year. She always puts on an amazing show and her emotions are displayed vividly as soon as she starts singing. Congratulations!
