Korean Government suddenly decided to represent their culture and Korea itself by promoting KPOP. They sent Calendars with KPOP idols such as Super Junior, f(x), Big Bang, 2NE1 and etc to international embassies. We are talking about the whole world here. It seems a bit embarrassing to push KPOP to people who might not even want it, (well I’d take those calendars any time, but I’m not a guy in a random embassy who might think of this as very WEIRD). I bet a lot of embassies would consider these kpop idols dressing and style quite ‘vulgar’, just think about rules and traditions in so many different countries. And what about Nigeria looking at Super Junior skinship? I don’t think this clashes at all.

To promote K-Pop idol groups all over the world, the Korean government has produced special photo calendars for international embassies.

Produced by the Ministry of Culture, Sports, and Tourism, the ’2012 K-Pop Photo Calendars’ were sent to 170 different embassies. The calendars contain pictures of top K-Pop stars, as well as short introductions on traditional Korean instruments — ultimately seeking to introduce the variety of Korean pop culture and music.

Embassy staff the world over will find photos of Super Junior, f(x), Big Bang, 2NE1, Wonder Girls, 2PM, miss A, KARA, B2ST, 4minute, T-ara, and SISTAR.

A representative of the ministry stated, “Through these calendars, we hope to introduce Korean culture and Hallyu to major media outlets and cultural art centers all over the world.”

What they did is almost same as US sending out Demi Lovato, Selena Gomez and The Jonas Brothers to every single country to represent itself. ON the other hand, there’s so many other ways KPOP could be spread, which in fact are not as embarrassing, that they never try to do. Limiting everything media does during concerts and promotions in other countries, while making an embarrassing move which isn’t going to get most embassies into KPOP makes simply no sense.
