Most drivers are the same in some way. When the roads are free of cops, they go a little bit over the speed limit, but once they see those blue and red lights flashing ahead in the road, the brakes kick in. In China’s Jiangsu province, they’ve developed a creative, but effective, way to keep traffic at a steady and safe pace.
The police managed to create an exact replica of the back of a police squad car using cardboard. The size, words, appearance are all exactly the same. This way, when drivers are driving down the road, they’ll think it’s an actual cop. They’ll slow down, thus slowing the flow of traffic.
One motorist by the name of Liu Yan said, “I spotted what I thought was a police vehicle parked on the hard shoulder, so I hit the brakes. When I went past it, I was stunned to see that it was just a thin piece of board painted to look like a cop car. It was so realistic. It even had a solar panel to power a flashing light”.
There are also cardboard warnings in the United States, but I’ve yet to seen one with my own two eyes. It’s a pretty smart technique though!
