With the recent release of their repackaged album for their first Japanese album, Girls’ Generation, SNSD has surpassed the 1 million copies shipped mark, a strong and remarkable feat for the girls, especially considering that they are foreign artists in Japan.
The only Korean artist able to achieve this feat before SNSD is fellow SMTOWN artist, BoA, who, as a soloist, achieved this thrice (”Listen to my Heart” (2002) with 1.29 million copies, “Valenti” (2003) with 1.4 million copies, and “Best of Soul” (2005) with 1.2 million copies).
When their first Japanese album came out, SNSD took the top spot on the Oricon chart and remained there and in the Top 10 for a whopping thirteen weeks, which is a record because typically artists remain there for around 1-2 months. And when the girls released the repackaged album 6 months later, the album went to #2 and this helped them break the 1 million copies shipped mark.
Congratulations to the girls! Definitely we will see bigger things from them in the future.
