The Ningin Round Table is a feature in which we pose an Asian entertainment news-related question to Ningin writers and they give us their colorful opinions and thoughts on the matter. The fact that almost every mainstream pop star has their own perfume made us wonder why such isn’t the case for KPOP. We recently asked our writers, “If idols endorsed their own perfumes, which idol would you want to smell like?” Here’s what some of them had to say:

Mercy Chia: When it comes to perfume, my preference is for ones that are light and fresh, especially ones that smell like fruit, so if I were to pick an idol that would most represent that smell, I would chose G.na. Whenever we see G.na on television, she is always naturally feminine, mature, and cute all at the same time. Since she seems like a very sweet person with a bubbly personality, I would imagine that if she were to endorse a perfume, it would be one that has a very girly smell, either flowery or fruity, to represent her girly nature.

Jessie Zhao: If 2NE1 leader CL unleashed her own perfume, I would definitely be the first in line to grab one. She’s already seen to many as unique, independent, and well, fierce. I feel that the scent she would come up with would reflect that perfectly. Owning a perfume by CL and smelling like her would make me feel more confident and fearless. The fragrance would be strong, but not to the point of overpowering everyone’s noses that I walk by. Maybe something oriental, something that’s exotic and fresh.

Jessica Ng: When a fangirl thinks of an idol she wants to smell like, the chances are that she’d choose a female; just the thought of smelling like a guy probably isn’t all too appealing. Well, unless the idol is Super Junior’s Kim Heechul, the one I would want to smell like if he endorsed his own line of fragrance. Imagine a tangy, spicy, fresh and unique citrus and flower-like scent. There would be crushed petals in the formulas, in honor of Heechul’s fans, with a soft aroma that stays around all day. With his own sense of style and outgoing personality, each of the scents would surprise and excite fans. If he were to design the packaging and vial as well, it’d be one that is hard to throw away. The best part about this scent is that it would be good for men and women, balancing out both Heechul’s masculine and feminine qualities. With a fragrance line like this, many people are bound to be attracted to the scents, including me. (Now Heechul just needs to come back from the army and make this happen.)

Lisa Lui: I don’t wear perfume that often, but when I do, it’s usually because I’m dressing up and heading to a bar or club. For these outings, I definitely want to look my best and exude confidence, which is why if HyunA had a perfume, I would want to smell like her. HyunA is incredibly sexy, sassy, powerful, and confident, as we have seen with her promotions with BEAST’s Hyun Seung for “Trouble Maker”. Her perfume, I can imagine, would have a scent that gives off those qualities like that of an exotic flower. With a little spritz of her perfume, maybe I’ll be able to channel my inner HyunA as I dance the night away, or attract an incredibly hot guy (maybe even just as hot as Hyun Seung).

Alexandria Faust: Smelling like a Kpop idol seems a bit odd at first glance, but actually a lot can be said about one’s scent. I’ve spent a lot of time thinking about this and still find it a bit difficult to decide, but I have broken it down based on gender, physic, singing/rapping style, and other such categories to determine my answer to be Zinger of Secret. Zinger really stood out to me for a number of reasons; she has an amazing athletic body structure that is very stable, her rapping style and voice are sharp and very unique, and her style is very upfront and boyish with a bit of a hiphop feel but has a girly and cute undertone to it that I can relate to. Her scent would probably be either more of a cinnamon or a citrus scent since they are both sharp and bold, much like her.

And now you all have the floor - do you agree or disagree with the round table?
