Ningin Round Table: Which idol is truly ‘forever alone’?

The Ningin Round Table is a feature in which we pose an Asian entertainment news-related question to Ningin writers and they give us their colorful opinions and thoughts on the matter. Now that Black Day is over and because of the popularity of the Forever Alone meme, we thought we’d ask our writers, “Which idol is truly forever alone?”

Priscilla Wu: When considering the “Forever Alone” idol, it’s only natural that one idol whom automatically comes to mind is Super Junior’s Leeteuk. Despite already being 28 (turning 29 this July), the oldest member of Super Junior has been yet to find somebody he can spend the rest of his life with. Although many argue that he still has a long time to go, and love is something that comes naturally, it seems like this idol has a history of rejection. During his performances on Idol Army that broadcast a couple of years ago where female idols would pick their favorites out of Super Junior, it seems that he would always be one of the last chosen. Even now with his “We Got Married” “wife” Kang Sora, she’s revealed that she sees him more as a brotherly figure. Leeteuk is definitely the leader we all love due to his humor and character - not to mention unique laugh - but it’s about time that he drops the gags and starts looking for love!

Susie Chong: The idol who is truly ‘forever alone’ the one and only cutie FT Island’s Lee Hong Ki. The truth of the matter is, Hong Ki is just too cute to be with somebody. Having seen his performance in “You’re Beautiful”, Lee Hong Ki comes across as an adorable guy, a guy who most girls would love to have a laugh and hang out with everyday. But getting into a relationship would be too risky as he would be a cutie who you just would not like to break up with - apparently he cried when a previous girlfriend broke up with him - the guilt would be too much to bear. He has been said by fellow band members to have too many shoes, is known for loving shopping and it’s also said that he loves being in front of the camera - characteristics that scream out as being an amazing best friend more than a boyfriend! In conclusion, Lee Hong Ki would be the perfect best buddy rather than partner.

Jennifer Shu: Forever Alone: One who will indeed, be alone for eternity. In my opinion, SHINee’s Onew fits this description as much as Kyuhyun fits the word evil (and that’s saying a lot). Most of the time, fans are very defensive towards their idols and do not let their idols date, not to mention Shawol’s reactions upon seeing such news. Plus, with SM Entertainment the dating ban is pretty imaginable. Therefore, in the mean time, all the idols can enjoy are those CPs made by either the fans or the company. See, in SHINee, Taemin has Minho, Jonghyun has Key, and Onew….*speechlessness*…. It was even previously mentioned in one of our blog posts that our adorkable Onew has never had a girlfriend……FOREVER ALONE. Obviously Onew won’t be the type who dies alone with 32 cats whatsoever (his chickens will follow him until the world ends), but him being with a girlfriend isn’t that easy to imagine either. (It’s okay, we Shawols will still love you forever <3)

Lisa Nguyen: If there was one idol that would be the epitome of ‘forever alone’ it would be SNSD’s Taeyeon. Sure she is the leader of a 9-member girl group but there are just times when she can’t connect - don’t worry though, I don’t mean this in a harsh way. For instance, whenever there are group photoshoots, Taeyeon is always stuck between two tall members and never with her fellow danshins - most of the time it looks like she has disappeared! Also, Taeyeon has a pillow that has an extended arm that wraps around the shoulder, though it may look cool you’ve got to be pretty desperate to have one of those. My last example of Taeyeon being truly forever alone is that the members absolutely love to troll this kid and in a sense ‘team-up’ against her. For example, during one of last years concerts, Yoona and Seohyun came from Taeyeon’s left and right and it looked like they were going for a three-way hug. However, Yoona and Seohyun changed paths at the last minute and hugged each other behind Taeyeon leaving the poor girl baffled awkward. Many more examples can show you how truly ‘forever alone’ Taeyeon is but I believe you guys fathom my point of view!

Stefanel Lee: Black Day is an informal tradition celebrated by single people every April 14th, where they would gather together to eat jajangmyeon. In honor of that special day, I think the idol who is truly “forever alone” is Big Bang’s Daesung. I think Daesung is a type of idol to be “forever alone” because for some reason a lot of people consider him as an idol who is not all that good looking mainly because of his small eyes. In fact, Daesung said it himself that he got shocked when he was accepted in YG Entertainment since usually companies don’t only choose idols for their skills but also their good looks. Although people may think he isn’t as handsome as the other idols, I think his amazing voice and lovable character would make any girl’s heart melt, and go head over heels for him.
