On May 21st, Youtube, Google and MBC celebrated their agreement with the “YouTube presents MBC K-Pop Concert” with SNSD’s Taeyeon and Tiffany as its MCs, but Super Junior’s Leeteuk has recently been taking some heat from netizens for closing the event.

The concert with all of the groups on stage singing “Arirang” together, and afterwards Leeteuk concluded the concert with the words, “We who have different languages and appearances have united as one in music.” Some netizens have been criticizing him for closing out the event, saying that since Taeyeon and Tiffany were the MCs for the event they should have done it.

A publicist for MBC explained, “I believe that the criticism is from some misunderstanding of the situation. The director of the concert asked Leeteuk who has a lot of experience in emceeing to wrap up the big live concert.”

He also stated, “It’s nonsense that he disturbed Tiffany’s emceeing. Leeteuk coming on stage with a microphone shows that it has been planned beforehand.”

Leeteuk (@special1004) also explained on twitter, “I was asked to wrap up the concert with closing lines after singing the ending song ‘Arirang.’ I would like to give my sincere apologies if saying the closing with the producer’s request is a wrongdoing. If not, I would like to politely ask you not to criticize me.”

The concert was broadcast live through Youtube’s MBC K-Pop channel and YouTube Presents channel and saw over 190,000 comments. At the concert, TVXQ, Super Junior, Wonder Girls, SNSD, KARA, MBLAQ, SISTAR, and f(x) performed. The concert will air on MBC at a later date.

Poor Leeteuk. He was just doing what the director asked. It did seem a bit strange though just because Tiffany was saying “thank you” when he started talking and the camera didn’t focus on him until late in his speech (about 3:19:51). If it had, maybe netizens wouldn’t be so confused.
