It’s time for the 2012’s Summer Olympics! It’s time for cheers, sports, bets, excitement, medals, and fencers that refuse to leave the podium.

It was a match between South Korea’s Shin A Lam and Germany’s Britta Heidemann. they were down to a tie with one second left, and the next one to touch the other would would the gold.

With one second left on the clock, Heidemann managed to land a touch on the alleged Korean, but that’s not what set Lam into tears.

The clock never actually started! This means that Heidemann had more than once second to give a brief stab with the sword. Enraged, Lam remained seated on piste and refused to leave when she was proclaimed the loser. (Leaving the piste (the platform) means that the competitors have accepted the judge’s ruling.)

45 minutes later a judge came to her and announced that she had lost, and that she would have to vacate the piste. Lam refused, and took one last stand.

In the end security had to come and escort her away from the piste while the crowd gave her a standing ovation. I must say, if I was attending the event I would be standing with that crowd as well. The judge’s ruling was completely unfair! Her opponent obviously had more then one second to land a hit, and this should have resulted in a rematch.
