After winning gold three straight Olympic games in a row, synchronized springboard Chinese diver Wu Minxia won’t be forgetting her experience in London any time soon. Her case, however, will be a bit different compared to the other Olympic winners. After Wu and her partner received their awards, Wu’s parents decided to drop a big family bomb.

Her parents decided to inform that “Wu’s grandparents died over a year ago. Her mother has been battling breast cancer for years.”

They explained that they hid the secret due to the fact that they didn’t want to distract her from her goal of winning and gold. The reason on why they had to finally reveal the breast cancer secret was because it was now in remission.

According to them, “It was essential to tell this white lie.”

How would you have felt about this if you were in Wu’s shoes?

but if they told her then, maybe it would of made her stronger....but then people take things in different, so maybe she’ll break down.
I would be heartbroken but ill compete for my family!

At least her grandparents would be proud of her for winning :(

That’s totally heart-breaking! ;~~~;
But I really understand the family’s reasoning~

yea...this is y only a few people in the world do olympics....too much pressure and training…

What the hell…

I think more people need to be praising the dedication and sacrifice the family made rather than to criticize it.

I would be heart broken. ;A;
I understand they wanted their child to focus on the Olympics but ffff.
Best wishes for her family~<3

how could they not tell her that her mom has breast cancer?!?!?! your kid need to know stuff like that...and just so she could focus on the gold medal?!?!?!?!? thats screwed up!!!

omg tat so sad T-T

Want the good news first or the bad news? Good news first= gold medal. Bad news later= ....

That’s terrible.

That’s terrible :( Let’s keep her in our prayers!

I can’t believe that, that’s one of the saddest stories ever :( I just cannot imagine being on such a high from winning the gold medal and then being dropped such a bombshell… bless her :(

wow, talk about being kept in the dark.

I saw this on Yahoo! Last week I think?
I thought it was sad but her parents did it so she can succeed.
& she did:D

seriously heartbreaking, but they did what’s best for her

wow that would be a lot to take in at one time for her...hope the family is ok :(

it was the best they could do for her ^^
such news would break her heart and prevent her from doing her best during the Olympics.. >__<

Yikes. Get a gold medal and then hear that sad family news? Can’t imagine…

respect their decision, all the best to them

I think it was the right thing to do. I mean.. If they did tell her? Wouldn’t she go berserk?!? She’d probably quit on her dream. :\

i would feel really bad if i was her…

wow that must suck :( add oil for her~~~!!!

I was watching the news when they mentioned this.  I feel so bad for her and the Chinese government in China wouldn’t let the parents mention anything.
