For the past few years, KPOP has hosted Idol Sports Competitions that allowed idols to show off their hidden athletic skills, skills that were only partially showcased on various variety shows. And with the new school year fast coming our way, perhaps it would be interesting to see what sports these idols would be a part of in high school (does university work as well?).

BoA - Dance

Where I come from, dance is counted under physical education, so dance is included here. There are many a fine dancer in KPOP and it is debatable who should be here but BoA is my choice. You can’t deny it either because her dance moves are so fluid and smooth, especially in recent years. She has much expression while dancing, no excess movement. Not convinced? Check out the dance version of her latest song, “Only One,” and come back when you’re done.

SISTAR’s Bora - Archery

For the most recent Idol Sports (Idols Olympics), Bora, who is known for her athletic skills (though she is a bit clumsy), was bestowed the nickname of “Goddess of Archery.” She easily won over her competition and gave fans a glimpse of her skills. My archery instructor would be proud of her!

ZE:A’s Dongjun - Track & Field (Running)

Thanks to a certain idol’s absence in a few Idol Sports (I’ll get to him later), Dongjun was able to display his stellar running skills to everyone and show everyone just how speedy he is. Because he was so quick, he became a serious contender to become the best of the best. And of course, high school teams would probably want him if he does a bit more training and the like.

JYJ’s Junsu - Soccer

Many male idols love playing soccer, but it’s no secret that Junsu really loves soccer and the like. Any casual Junsu fan would know that this idol would be playing soccer whenever he could. After all, he is only the captain of the celebrity men’s soccer team. That just says something, right? (Or maybe no one wanted to be captain, which I doubt.)

EXO-M’s Kris - Basketball

Before making his debut with EXO-M, Kris was probably your normal, average (don’t know about average) kid who was just tall. That height most likely steered him to playing basketball in school and predebut pictures show him in photos with his basketball team. All he really has to do is jump and dunk. He’s tall and lanky, which is definitely beneficial to high school teams (I think).

f(x)’s Krystal - Figure Skating

She may be just a beginner but Krystal quickly embraced the ice last year during her appearance on the show “Kiss and Cry.” She was a fast learner and became comfortable on the ice, flaunting her skating (and athletic) skills. If she didn’t become an idol, she most likely could’ve become a figure skater.

SHINee’s Minho - Track & Field (Hurdles)

This kid is really athletic and competitive. Minho always wanted to be a soccer player when he grew up but his father was against that (and thus he turned to idol ways and the rest is history). Yes, his competitiveness may be a turn-off for quite a few (but those who know the ways of sports competitions can understand), but you can’t deny his athleticism. He learns quick and prides himself in doing stuff correctly, like hurdles (wasn’t there that one article in the past where a former hurdler mentioned that the idols’ forms were off?).

TEEN TOP’s Niel - Track & Field (High Jump)

He may not have the perfect form for high jump (I’m sure a lot of high jump athletes would cringe at not only his but most idols’ forms), but Niel showed that he is quite apt at the sport, even beating Minho’s record of 1.73m, which is made even all more the remarkable considering his height. I’m sure with proper training and coaching, he would do quite well in the event.

After School’s UEE - Swimming

UEE is pretty much the forerunner of the Idol Swim Athletic Championships for it was she who suggested a swimming component. Unfortunately, despite her love for swimming, for the first couple swimming meets, she was unable to participate and expressed her disappointment. She always mentions swimming and it’s been said that she’s quite good at the sport.

f(x)’s Victoria - Gymnastics

Considering her amazing flexibility, teams all over the world would want her to be on their team. After all, gymnastics requires much flexibility and Victoria would have no problem fitting in if that were the case. I think the picture just says it all.

What other sports do you see idols participating in if they were in high school?
