KPOP is going to get exciting this fall! There are many anticipated comebacks from big name groups that all coincidentally fall under this short season this year. Groups from SM Entertainment and YG Entertainment planned their comebacks almost one after another, and this will surely transform Fall 2012 into a highly competitive, and highly exciting KPOP season. Just in time to help many of us KPOP fans readjust to school life, eh? Who will you be cheering for? Check out the list below!
1. TVXQ!
The Kings of KPOP are preparing for a comeback later this month! This duo from SM Entertainment last made an official Korean comeback in 2011, releasing “Keep Your Head Down” in January. Since then, they’ve been pretty busy promoting in Japan, where they released full length Japanese album “Tone” in September of last year. They kicked off their Tone Japanese tour the beginning of this year, and has since then released various Japanese singles.
In an interview before their concert in Osaka, Japan, they stated, “We are preparing for a comeback in the second half of the year. We concentrated on working in Japan for the first half of the year, but we believe our Korean fans are also waiting for us. We are planning to return to Korea soon with a new image. We have not set an exact date yet, but we will comeback during a good period of time and achieve good results. We also plan to hold concerts if possible.”
Cassies, rejoice!
2. Girl’s Generation
The ladies of Girl’s Generation last released their third Korean album “The Boys” in October of 2011. After the promotional period of “The Boys” and the followup track “Mr. Taxi” in Korea, the girls made their successful USA television debut through the David Letterman Show with the English version of “The Boys”. Afterwards, they released Japanese single “Paparazzi” last May, and “All My Love Is For You” just around a week ago. With plans to release “Oh!” as their 5th Japanese single towards the end of this month, their Korean comeback could happen as early as this upcoming October.
3. EXO
If you want me to be technical, it’s EXO-K’s comeback, since EXO-M promotes in China. However, their slogan is “We are one, we are EXO!”. The two teams of EXO made their debuts earlier this year in April through the release of their EP “Mama“. Making a lasting impression with their powerful performances, this rookie group already gained a substantial fan base after their first two months of promoting. Coming back with a full length album this fall, their comeback will be placed most likely after SNSD’s comeback.
4. G-Dragon
I’m sure you all know of GD’s comeback, and it’s coming up right around the corner! With the release of “One Of A Kind” around two weeks ago, and “That XX” around a week ago, GD certainly has VIPs excited for his comeback on the 16th. His album will be released on the 18th of this month, and his promoted title track will be “Crayon“. “Crayon” is representative of GD’s crazy and unique brand, as well as a shortened form of “CRAZY+ G Dragon”.
5. 2NE1
The fierce ladies of 2NE1 will be returning with their second full length album, “New Evolution“, in October. This album was originally set to be released in July or August, but due to the group’s New Evolution World Tour, it had to be delayed til October. Teddy Park helped them produce this album, and he revealed that 7 songs have already been recorded in June. The members of 2NE1 made their last comeback with single “I Love You” in Korea in July.
6. SuPearls
YG Entertainment is preparing to debut their new girl group SuPearls in September at the latest. Made up of Lee Hayi, Michelle Lee, Lee Jungmi, and Lee Seungjoo, SuPearls is a vocally talented girl group that were formerly contestants on SBS’ “Kpop-Star“. However, Park Ji Min decided to sign with JYP Entertainment instead and will not be part of this group. Furthermore, Michelle Lee is also biracial, being half African American and half Korean. It’s not to say that race plays a big factor in their debut, she is talented no matter what, but that it’s a great direction that KPOP is moving towards right now. KPOP has, for the most part, been an Asian dominated industry, and the addition of Michelle Lee will definitely help KPOP and the media steer towards a more open minded era.
7. YG Entertainment’s New Mystery Girl Group
After SuPearls, YG plans to debut their new mysterious girl group. Every member is under 20 years old, including Kim Eunbi and Kim Yoona, as well as a 16 year old, half Caucasian, half Korean member with extraordinary dancing skills. YG shared, “We cannot disclose any specific information including the total number of members, however, as of now we plan to debut them in October.”
8. Epik High
Hip hop group composed of Tablo, Mithra, and DJ Tukutz, the members signed with YG Entertainment and will be releasing a new album later in September. Tablo signed with YG with a 4 year exclusive contract and released his debut solo album while fellow band mates were serving mandatory military service. DJ Tukutz was discharged August of last year and Mithra was discharged last May.
9. CSJH The Grace
CSJH will finally make their comeback this October! In 2010, member Stephanie suffered a major back injury that halted all of the group’s activities. In 2011, while Stephanie was in the states performing with Los Angeles Ballet, and Lina pursued her acting career, Dana and Sunday formed the sub-unit “The Grace-Dana and Sunday” and released single “One More Chance“. SM released previously that Stephanie will debut as a solo artist this September, and the group will comeback in October.
10. SHINee
So, no news of their Korean comeback has been released yet. However, soon after their release of Korean mini album “Sherlock” back in March, news have been shared that they will be coming back with a full length Korean album later in the year. However, recent news of their new Japanese single “Dazzling Girl” has surfaced as well, and that will be in October. With so many comebacks of artists from SM Entertainment planned for the Fall, it’s likely that SHINee’s Korean activities have been pushed back as a result. Although they are doing fantastic in Japan, I really miss their Korean music! I wonder if they’ll make it in before 2012 ends.
So, that wraps up the top 10 most anticipated comebacks of Fall 2012. It’s gonna be a battle. Which comeback are you anticipating the most?
