Imagine living in a village of about 200 people and only way of connecting with the rest of the world. That’s how life is for the Chinese village Yushan of the Hubei Province.

Interestingly enough, these people use a zip line, 400 meters high and 1,000 yards long, to contact the outside world. It carries a steel cage to transport different people and products to and fro, just between a couple of cliff faces. This invention from 1997 is well appreciated by those who had to walk for days to reach the closest village, prior to its creation.

The caretaker of the service of 15 years, Zhang Xinjian comments:

“I started to work at this spot since the rope was set up. No one would take the job… As my father was the village head he had to assign me to do it and it has been 15 years. In the beginning, my father, my younger brother and I took care of the cableway together, but later my younger brother quit and my father’s health went bad, so it’s only me that could do the job.”

It must be a tough job, but surely the other villagers appreciate his hard work. Here are some other amazing photos!

Would you be able to handle such a lifestyle?

That is absolutely so amazing. I gotta hand it to China - they are so incredibly innovative. I would never be able to imagine such a thing in Canada!

Woah, that’s crazy. I’d be afraid to cross in that thing.

WOW. O_O") If I was him, I’d be chickening out. LOLOL. I’m scared of heights! >.<

I feel bad that he’s the only one taking care of it. It looks like a lot of fun though
