12 KPOP Idol High School Drop Outs

It has just been revealed that Hoya doesn’t regret dropping out of high school, to pursue his singing carreer. Here is a list of some other Idols who also dropped out of school to start their Idol career, or Idols who already had fame but stopped school because of their schedules. Have a look a this list of 12 High School drop outs.

1. Infinite - Hoya

He was already mentioned above and in a previous article, so you can read about it here.

2. MBLAQ - G.O

G.O actually dropped out because of an other Idol. In a singing competition he ended up being second, the person who received first place was Girls’ Generation Taeyeon. After he found out Taeyeon was 2 years younger than him, he asked his parents if he could drop out of school to pursue his singing career. He did take his GED later and was able to get into college.

3. Big Bang - Seungri

This is pretty recent, about a half a year ago seungri decided to drop out of college because he had such a busy schedule. Seungri dropped out of Chungang University, but didn’t give up on his education. He enrolled in Gukje Digital University, which makes him able to follow classes through the internet, so they won’t cause problems with his schedules.

4. Big Bang - Daesung

Daesung is another member of Big Bang who dropped out of school, Daesung dropped out of high school to concentrate on his Big Bang activities, he did take the high school graduation qualification exam and passed. Because of this he was able to apply into college. He got accepted into Kyunghee University.

5. Wonder Girls - Sohee

In 2009, Sohee decided to drop out of High School to prepare for her US debut. Currently she really wishes she could go to college overseas, but she hasn’t even had the chance to take the GED to enroll in college

6. ex-Wonder Girls - Sun Mi

Same story as Sohee, she also dropped out to focus on the US debut. One year later she decided to also drop out of Wonder Girls, but this time to pursue her studies. She succesfully graduated High School.

7. 2NE1 - Minzy

Minzy dropped out of high school when she was 15, she gave it much though but decided she wanted to dedicate her energy to 2NE1’s activities. At the time she did reveal she would keep studying offline, so she could later register for a qualification exam to get her high school diploma.

8. SHINee - Taemin

Taemin dropped out of Chungdam High School, which is a regular high school, he couldn’t attend enough classes because of his activities. He decided to drop out and enroll into an arts school who would be more lenient and understanding towards students who want to focus on their careers.

9. Seo Taiji

Seo Taiji dropped out of school when he was 14, he wanted to persue his music career. He was in a few bands, to later be in the metal band Sinawe when he was 17 they broke up 2 years later. He was most famous for his dance group Seo Taiji and the Boys which he started up in 1991. He’s been known as a k-pop legend.

10. SS501 - Kim Hyun Joong

Kim Hyun Joong dropped out of high school also to pursue is musical career. He was always bored in school and just wanted to play guitar, he always had his guitar in class. In 2011 he enrolled into Chungwoon University to continue his studies.

11. JYJ - Yoochun

Yoochun dropped out of high school. He studied in Virginia but was cast into SM entertainment and moved to Korea. He did go back to high school and graduated from Hanam High School in 2007, although he was 2 years older than his classmates he was very proud, as can be seen on his graduation picture.

12. JYJ - Jaejoong

Jaejoong dropped out of High School for his singing career, later auditioning at SM. Jaejoong later went back to high school and graduated in 2007.
