For about a week now, we’ve been using a different system to track EXP points. I don’t know when exactly we’ll be switching to the new system entirely. It could be this Sunday or next Sunday. In the mean time there’s a few things you guys should know. More »

INTENSE! That’s the one word I would choose to describe this recent Mixr League Gaming match between the faithful fans of SNSD (the Sowons) and the Wonder Girls (the Wonderfuls). Try as I might for SNSD, I could not ebb the tsunami that was conkwe. She was solely responsible for the match win thanks to her six victories!(!!!) If her spirit in this game is indicative of her love for the Wonder Girls, then she’s quite possibly the world’s biggest Wonder Girls fan. Let’s see the breakdowns: More »

I would like to introduce to you, Newsstream, the successor to Social News! Newsstream is a way to see all the top stories from around the Internet related to Ningin. It combines feeds from hundreds of websites into one big stream of news. More »

This round wasn’t so much a 3-team slugfest, rather a 2-team duel between Mixr Users and WireMe. Some of Team Ningin decided to sit this one out and it cost them dearly - so much so that they are in 3rd place now and in danger of being eliminated in the next round. When the dust cleared, Mixr Users won this round again, by a 4 point margin over WireMe and ever so slightly increased their lead in the standings. A handful of new faces has entered the fray for team Mixr Users, joonieshoney, harmonixia, and PurpleChicken and their impact was enormous. Let’s get to the breakdowns: More »

The much anticipated SNSD vs Wonder Girls Mixr League Gaming match has been scheduled for next weekend, 3/12 - 3/14. There’s still a few days left to enter and ensure that your favorite band wins! Read on for the full details: More »

The second half of MLG Ladders Season I kicks off this weekend and we just added 7 new games to compete in! Here’s the early preview of the games with the rosters coming tomorrow: More »

MLG Ladders has been brutally competitive so far. After 3 rounds of competition, 9 points separates first and second; 3 points between second and third. Unfortunately we also saw the elimination of BlitzKuTek. They dropped so far behind that it was mathematically improbable that they would come back. Mixr Users took first this week again, but only by a margin of 2 points. WireMe finished second ahead of Ningin this time by one point. The competition is only going to get fiercer now that we’re moving past the halfway point. Whatever team can stand the pressure the best is going to ultimately be the winner. Let’s see the game by game results: More »

For the competitive gamers among you, we just added a new feature in our games section: Record Holders. Now you can see very quickly who the top scorers are in tournament-qualified games. (Scroll down a bit after visiting the games homepage.) As an added bonus for those holding these prestigious positions, you’ll eventually earn EXP points everyday that you hold a record. Have fun! Some people may say it doesn’t matter but I consider the question of East Coast vs West Coast to be one of the most - if not the most - important debate of the century. I’m really glad this conflict was settled once and for all yesterday on the Mixr League Gaming battlefield so that we can put an end to this violence. Hear that folks? The war is over. Like, it doesn’t matter that East Coast won in a dominating 7-2 fashion. Let’s all write peaceful blog posts… More »

Another epic battle in the inaugural Mixr League Gaming Ladder concluded yesterday. While the nations under the Mixr banner put up a good fight, the elite team of Mixr Users ended up being the ones that were victorious. And it wasn’t particularly close as Mixr Users scored 28 out of a possible 36 points. Team Ningin kept it somewhat close with a string of 2nd place finishes and getting 25 points. This round was not meant for WireMe and BlitzKuTek as they got 18 and 17, respectively. On to the details: More »

Mixr League Gaming Ladder Round 2 starts this weekend! Since WireMe won last round, Jordan, Captain of WireMe, leads us into the week: More »

Who doesn’t love SNSD? (If you’re a Wonderful, don’t answer that.) There is, after all, 9 amazingly cute and sexy girls in that super band. How great would it be to spend Valentine’s Day with all 9 of them? Absolutely amazing right?? Well, good luck with that. If it doesn’t work out, why don’t you try to win a free copy of their latest Oh! album. Oh!, we’ll throw in the poster too. More »

I know many of you already do, but this February, we want more people to fall in love with us. Why wouldn’t you love us? We make you happy, we make you laugh, we’re always here for you, and most importantly we get you expensive gifts. We also like long walks on the beach and the Avatar movie. So we really want to make this February - especially this Valentine’s day - special for you so that you’ll always remember and cherish it. Life is so short. Let’s make the most of it together! In war, it’s often the victors that gets to write the narrative. Since I was captain of the Mixr Users team, history is how I see it. What I saw was…total domination by Mixr Users!! From the beginning, it never seemed like Mixr Bloggers had much of a chance, but people expected a much closer battle instead of the 7-2 final outcome. One of those points on the Mixr Blogger team, by the way, came from a Mixr User not playing. Let’s get to the breakdowns: More »

Boy what an intense weekend of flash gaming! Going into this I really didn’t think the teams were all that balanced. With only three total points separating the first and last team, it seems we have some real competition. WireMeis first getting a 24 out of a possible 36 points. Team Mixr Users is second trailing by just one point. BlitzKuTek is not far behind, trailing by 2 points. Ningin, the once dominant team heading into this tournament, is surprisingly last trailing WireMe by 3. Let’s get to the breakdowns: More »

Jinra is too busy washing her hair or something, so I’m writing this week’s prize winners/updates. In case we haven’t said this enough times, we just launched HTCYou - a site for HTC phone users and Google Android news. That’s site #10 for us yay! Soon, we’ll be giving out unlocked HTC phones as part of the promo. I bet that got your attention. There was also some Mixr League Gaming action or MLG for short. We didn’t have just one tournament, but two: Ningin defeated the evil chimera known as BlitzKuTek; and the Battle of the Sexes, where the guys were oh so close to beating the girls. We’re still experimenting around with various rules, length, team sizes, etc. but so far so good. The much more intense MLG 3-month long ladder starts this week. My bold prediction, someone from a Mixr site will win! More »

This has been a long time coming (like months ago), however, we’ve been busy adding new websites to our network. We still have a few more sites to go including a fashion and movie site. That’s one fashion site and one movie site, not a site about fashion in movies. Anyway, some people felt that comments in certain areas like Blogs or Social News should be worth more than comments in forum games. That makes sense to me. Here’s a breakdown of the changes: More »

Congratulations to Ningin again for the upset win over Wirebot in the inaugural MLG tournament. So far I like what I’m seeing with Mixr League Gaming. There has been many a tearful eye, much blood was spilled, and we even had a couple of babies exchanged hands. Yes, all this makes for a bright MLG future and something that we’re going to greatly expand. Pretty soon, we’re going to have users form their own teams and play for pins. prizes, and other glories in the MLG Ladders. Still lots of testing that needs to be done, but we’re getting there! Regular readers of Ningin know that I’m a big baseball fan, especially a big New York Yankees fan. Until recently, I thought America had the most passionate baseball fans in the world. Then I watched this documentary by Kenneth Eng on Koshien, the national high school baseball tournament in Japan. Prestigious alumni of Koshien includes current World Series MVP, Hideki Matsui and another World Series ring holder, Daisuke Matsuzaka. Baseball in Japan isn’t just a sport or a national past time, it’s an intricate bond that holds entire communities together on a local level and an entire nation together on a national level. Players don’t play for themselves or their teams, but for their coaches, their schoolmates, their family, and all their friends. Losing in Koshien is the equivalent of letting down all who supported them. I like that these games mean so much. It makes the competition all that more fun to watch and makes playing in them a once in a lifetime opportunity. More »

As Commissioner of the inaugural Mixr League Gaming tournament, it’s my job to do a number of things - ensure that all the rules are followed, incite riot and animosity among the participants, ensure that no animals or interns are harmed, and pick out games that would make for good tournament play. I must say this is a particularly challenging job, but I feel good about my abilities. More »
