Takeshi Kitano, also known as Beat Takeshi, has just finished his newest Yakuza movie since 2001 and first action movie since 2003’s Zatoichi. He directs and stars in Outrage along with Tomokazu Miura, Kippei Shiina, and Ryo Kase. It is said to hold a frightening level of violence. I really want to see it, so I hope it isn’t as gory as Ichi the Killer, which I haven’t technically seen, but I’ve seen pictures. Takeshi can do no wrong in my eyes, so I bet this will be an awesome movie. More »

Linda, Linda, Linda is a Japanese movie about, well, the angst about being a teenager. Anyway, it is in my opinion. Here’s was AsianMediaWiki says: “Only three days before their high school festival, guitarist Kei (Yu Kashii), drummer Kyoko (Aki Maeda of Battle Royale), and bassist Nozumi (Shiori Sekine) are forced to recruit a new lead vocalist for their band. They choose Korean exchange student Son (Doona Bae of Sympathy for Mr. Vengeance), though her comprehension of Japanese is a bit rough! It’s a race against time as the group struggles to learn three tunes for the festival’s rock concert—including a classic ’80s punk-pop song by the Japanese group The Blue Hearts called “Linda Linda”… ” More »

The 2 hours I spent watching Gurren Lagann Movie Lagann-Hen were the best 2 hours of my life. The wait for the DVDs to come out was worth it. If anything, it made the movie even better. While the movie wouldn’t be too spectacular if I watched it right after the series. Revisiting it a few years later was a good reminder on why Gurren Lagann was so good. It’s not just a simple re-hash either. More »

Following The Host, Bong Joon Ho’s “Mother” is his latest film to make its way into US theaters. Scheduled to release March 12, Mother stars Won Bin who plays a mentally handicapped individual charged with the murder of a young girl. The case closes finding him guilty but as the film’s title suggests, mother dearest is anything but happy. As in, you don’t wanna mess with mommy. You also don’t want to mess with Bong Joon Ho, a critically acclaimed director and screenwriter. If The Host is any indication of how Mother will do stateside, I’d say it’d fair pretty well. When it comes to how I felt about The Host — color me impressed. Watch the trailer for Mother below: More »
