The girl groups craze of 2009 has shown its lasting effects at the 7th Korean Music Awards, where the judges are known to be unbiased and based their decisions purely on talents. Brown Eyed Girls and SNSD, two of Kpop’s biggest girl groups, grabbed home some awards during that night. More »

Many have auditioned for the role of Fame pin game winner, but only few have made it. Don’t let that deter you from achieving Ningin-fame. In my eyes, you’re all famous and you can do no wrong. Unless of course you decide to pursue careers in film and take on projects similar to Fame. Talk about not famous. More »

Not a lot of people know this, but I was raised on fame in the 80s. And by “fame,” I mean the Irene Cara karaoke version of the song used in the movie of the same name: Fame. Minus a starring role in the Hannah Montana show, I’ve got a lot in common with Anna Maria Perez de Tagle, star of the upcoming 2009 remake out Sept. 25. Aside from both being Filipinas with painfully long names and shiny hair, we’ve both capitalized on this movie. Me by way of forced family function karaoke performances, her by way of starring in a Hollywood movie about young people trying to become famous. Jealous? Don’t be. You’ll become famous with this week’s Fame pin game. More »

Ever have those mornings after a long debaucherous night, only to realize you don’t remember a thing? I know I have once or five times. How about waking up only to find that you can’t remember a thing from being inside a hyper-sleep chamber in deep space? Don’t look at me guys, I’m actually not an alien — can’t shed any light on that. Perhaps, the upcoming Pandorum film featuring world-class martial artist Cung Le, will? Le plays Manh, a space crew member that aids Dennis Quaid and Ben Foster’s characters into figuring out what happened while hungover, deep space-style. I can’t promise full space cadet-hood with the Pandorum Pin game, but at least you’ll remember it. That’s how good it is this week. More »

Brothers and sisters looking into pledging for the Phi Kappa Kappa Kappa Ningin Pin Gameda house, your Sorority Row pin game results time has arrived. Before I announce our future brothers and sisters, I just want to say that I am very proud of all of you. Over the past year, you’ve been able to distinguish celluloid train wrecks from film masterpieces and vice versa. Like mini-Siskel and Eberts, only younger and better looking. Stronger too, probably. Speaking of strength, Sorority Row closed in at Rottentomatoes with a weak 29%. More »

It looks like we’ve been played by Gamer. Again, it was another movie we had high expectations for. Maybe it was the high-octane action-packed trailers? Ludacris? (Ludacris sold me.) Hopes of Gerard Butler’s gamer character being a reincarnation of 300’s King Leonidas? THIS IS…GAMER! Gamer closed in at Rottentomatoes at a final 24%. It then managed to slip down to 21%. Yikes. Ever experience feeling hurt and flattered at the same time? I’m flattered that we all set high expectations for All About Steve because it’s loosely based on the story of my life (sans Bradley Cooper eventually falling in love with me), but hurt because movie critics just didn’t believe in me and my plight of being an awkward girl highly unsuccessful in the dating scene. Sad, but true. But as the title goes, it is not All About Jinra. It is All About Steve, and to tell you All About Steve…it closed with a final score 6% on Rottentomatoes. More »

I guess most of you thought this movie was going to suck because of the people in it. I can see why you think that. Turns out this movie is really good. Like, really good. On Friday it was 80% as recorded in the screenshot. It’s now 81% at the time of this writing. The movie is getting better with age! Vanessa Hudgens could use the good PR. More »

It’s fun when everyone wins, well, mostly everyone. When I made this Paper Heart pin game, the movie was already in limited release. So most critics already had access to it and give it an early score of 63% based on 40 or so reviews. Its final score wasn’t going to deviate too much from that when this contest ended since most people already casted their vote. At closing time, the final score was 61%. It still sits at 61% 3 days later. Good for Charlene Yi and good for those that didn’t stray too far from 63%. More »

The Goods: Live Hard, Sell Hard received a score of 27% on Rottentomatoes. I’m kinda sadden by this. I think Jeremy Piven is an amazing actor, the trailers seemed really funny, and I have a real soft spot for stupid B-comedies. I actually thought it was going to be this year’s Tropic Thunder. Oh well, it’s not like you look for these types of movies to fulfill you intellectually, just give you some laughs when you feel like it. More »

Seems that most of you don’t have much faith in the great master of anime movies, Hayao Miyazaki. Rottentomatoes gave it a score of 95%! Let this be a lesson to those that doubted him. Not all of his movies make it to the States, but of the ones that do, they’re usually epic! Ponyo may not be his best ever, but the man lives up to a different standard of excellence where even his mediocre works are far and away better than most can put together. It’s Miyazaki’s world and we’re all just living in it. Those that have seen his movies probably would love that notion. More »

Did you know that Vanessa Hudgens is one of the most searched for person on Ningin? Ever since last February where she shed her Disney image (among other things), she’s become a household name. Next week she’ll be starring in a move called Bandslam where she’ll play a guitar-wielding misfit name Sa5m. In case you’re wondering, the 5 is silent. Sa5m forms an unlikely band with her high school friends to compete at some contest called Bandslam. Just think variation on High School Musical. More »

We’ve already covered Charlene Yi’s Paper Heart movie a couple of times already with an initial preview and a focus on the Dirty Dancing spoof. (I believe Jinra is still fuming over that fact that Michael Cera chose Yi over her.) All kidding aside, this is a big movie for Yi. It’s her first screenplay and producer credit. If things go well – all indications is that it will – then she’ll be on her way to a successful Hollywood career. More »

The trailer for The Goods: Live Hard, Sell Hard, starring Jeremy Piven, has been just about everywhere making it pretty hard to ignore. In the trailer, there’s one scene where an Asian guy get’s beat down during a Pearl Harbor speech. That Asian guy is comedian/medical doctor Ken Jeong who is very rapidly making a career out of bit Asian parts in senseless B-comedies. In the past two years he’s been in The Hangover, Role Models, Pineapple Express, Step Brothers, and a bunch of TV guest appearances. More »
