Summer Wars is finally out, and I’m so excited to watch it. I’ve managed to resist watching the low quality versions floating around on the internet because I wanted to watch the movie at its best. I heard people compare this to the first Digimon movie, something I need to rewatch some day. I’ve managed to avoid spoilers for this long, just to be able to enjoy this movie even more. More »

From Rekuru: Akira Kurosawa takes us on a journey through a gloriously reconstructed feudal Japan for an introspection on the reality of power and identity in his 1980 return to the samurai genre, Kagemusha.
As an aging ruler named Shingen passes on, his dying wish is for his death to be concealed for three more years until the army can overtake a strategic city. The estate’s principal retainers bring in a ragged petty thief to pose as a double for the late ruler, with only those closest to him aware of the hoax. The kagemusha (double), after being rescued from a death sentence, is reluctant to lose his identity for a warlord. After a change of heart, and learning that he really has no other options, the kagemusha is taught the finest details of the late ruler’s mannerisms, speech, and relationships. He must fool everyone, even a long-time doctor and Shingen’s mistresses and grandson, or the enemies will learn the truth and take down the estate. Through the kagemusha’s experiences of pretending to be powerful, being treated as a king and master of war, he learns what it is like to be the ruler but yet it is all false, and all the decisions are being made by the generals. It must have been a rather bizarre feeling for the kagemusha, but he knew he had a role to fulfill and everything was depending on him to be convincing enough. More »

A big surprise from the Sony and Panasonic team. Each of the two 25GB layers has been refined to 33.4GB per layer. They have been working a refinement for a while now, as the weakest chain in their technology is NOT their lasers. Why fix the body when you can fix the brain? How does this work, without buying any additional parts? A firmware update (FREE DOWNLOAD) to your blu-ray player or PS3 will tell your lasers to read more precisely and pack data more closely within the same space efficiently. (Improving error check.) The Japanese have done it again.

Namie Amuro is as busy as ever and her career has been going nowhere but up. Just recently she had her birthday party, her tour was announced on Blu-Ray and now is seen filming a commercial film for Vidal Sassoon. More »

Namie Amuro will have her Best Fiction tour released on Blu-ray on Sept. 9 and be one of few artists to ever grace such a high definition format. Oddly enough, Japan who is light years ahead of technology is handicapped by the world’s out of date standards and sees few releases on Blu-ray. More »

Final Fantasy VII: Advent Children Complete is hitting a big screen TV near you on Tuesday, June 2, on Blu-ray Disc and it is a digital eye candy feast! Danny posted up about this being released back in April. He was all excited to watch it on his 40″ Bravia XBR4. Well, I got to watch the FFVII Blu-ray projected from a Sony PS3 onto a 16″x9″ theater screen and it was incredible. The detail, the color, the sound — whoa. More »
