This means you can do one by yourself, one with a group of friends, one with your siblings, one with random people, and however many other combinations exist in your life. Hey, thanks to everyone who spent time to send the Wonder Girls a message for Valentine’s Day. Also, thanks to the people who said nice things about Ningin. All of these gestures are really appreciated.

As I said previously, we really enjoy being the bridge that connects Asian pop stars with their fans. It’s something we hope to be doing a lot more of in the future. More »

Valentine’s Day is quickly creeping towards us. Ningin plans to do a special V-Day event with blog articles related to this magic and commercially created day of love. Besides articles, we were trying to think of what else we can do. After the invasion of the Wonderfuls (nickname for fans of the Wonder Girls) these past few days, we got our idea. More »

Everyone knows about the Wonder Girls dance videos on YouTube and other video sharing sites. There must be thousands of them on the interweb… Well, does everyone know that the Wonder Girls have been following this craze? In fact, they love these videos so much that they want to make an official Wonder Girls Dance Video Contest, and they asked Ningin to organize it! More »

With Valentine’s Day just around the corner, who knows what will happen next week.

Here’s this weeks wrap up: More »

While David was chatting away with Utada, I was sitting on the couch with Utada’s father and manager, Teruzane Utada. Oh man, is he a cool guy! It’s too bad I can’t share some of the stories he told me about Utada. Perhaps one day I can…

Thanks to Mr. Utada, we have the following autographed photo of Utada which we’ll be giving away to a lucky fan. All you have to do is send a private message to “utada_contest” with the message, “I Heart Utada” and that’s it! More »

It’s been one week since we asked who was Jay Chou’s biggest fan and deserved two tickets to see Jay live in concert. We got a wide range of responses. Many people said Jay was just so H-O-T. Others said his voice was so beautiful. Everyone told us how Jay’s music had touched their lives. Someone even claimed to be Jay’s illegitimate son and wished for a family reunion. (We decided that request was best handled by Jay’s management) More »

…at the bottom of this blog post.

What a contest! This was easily our most popular contest of the year! It’s great to see so many people chipping in and doing their part as fans to help their favorite artist.

As I was going through the entries, I wondered if people just uploaded and didn’t bother to tell their friends. See, uploading the BoA videos was a means to an end with that end being, exposing BoA to more people. So I hope you guys went the extra step and told your friends to check out your uploaded stuff. There’s probably a lot more people in America that don’t know who BoA is than people that do. Those are the ones that need to be educated if BoA is to have a better chance of crossing over! *cough MTV Iggy* More »

The idea behind this contest is to help spread the word about BoA. What better way to do than to ask her ever-loving fanbase to help right? You see, being a star — being popular in general — is more about numbers than anything else. The more times people see you, the more people know about you, the more likely you’ll become a hit. She’s already a household name in Asia, but not so much in America or Western media.

That’s where fans can change things and why Ningin has dedicated so much of our time and energy in BoA putting together this special 5 day BoA event. BoA is an extremely talented, down-to-earth, good-natured, all-around amazing performer. We knew that BoA has a really strong likelihood of crossover success relative to other Asian pop stars and so we made a great effort to showcase that with our interview of BoA and with our special BoA website. We’ve been getting a lot of questions asking what exactly are we giving away every day. So here just see for yourself in these photos after the jump. There isn’t any official merchandise such as cds, t-shirts, or posters related to BoA’s Eat You Up album yet because the we’re still a few months away from actual release. So Ningin made one-of-a-kind collector’s posters which BoA so generously autographed. Having collected a few autographs from many celebs, I have to say, BoA’s signature is really cool. Anyway there’s a couple of CDs that we had signed too.

Everyday we’re giving out two posters to lucky Ningin users. All you have to do is visit us each day so there’s a chance, albeit tiny chance, that you can win multiple days. So if you’re already a Ningin member, you don’t have to do anything but visit. If you’re new to Ningin, then you better sign up now! It only takes 30 secs or so to register. More »

Boa Kwon, easily one of Asia’s biggest pop stars, is crossing over to the United States. Even casual fans of Boa know that this is what she’s been groomed for since she was a little kid. However, preparation and talent can only go so far. There’s a lot of factors beyond Boa’s and her management’s control.

The number one reason why we started Ningin was for events such as this. Everyone here has a serious passion about Asian media and would love nothing more than to see Boa and every other Asian pop star succeed worldwide. When Boa’s management contacted us to help promote Boa’s US arrival, we were extremely thrilled to say the least. We understand that communities like Ningin have important roles to play in making changes and so we’re taking this very seriously.

See http://boa.ningin.com

Starting today for the next five days, we’ll be posting articles, photos, and DVD-quality video related to Boa. We created our own special flash video player (nicknamed the Boa Player) just to accomplish this feat. We’ll take a deep look into her history, her achievements, and her goals. We’re even going analytical and see why Asian pop stars have a hard time crossing over. As mentioned before, we have an exclusive video interview with Boa herself and we’ve put together a professional camera team to go film it. Oh, and all this content will be available to download and share under the Creative Commons license. So please download! More »

It’s great to see so many enthusiast Megaman movie fans here on Ningin. We had way more entries than we expected and so it took us a bit to sort them out. I think next time we’ll do an automated form or something.

Without further ado here are the winners and their prizes:

Rawr – Megaman 9 video game for Wii Zeno – Megaman Movie DVD Joderb - DVD Tsanguan - DVD TKM – DVD

None of the winners were from the NYC area thus no movie premiere tickets were given out. More »

The responses have been great so far for Eddie Lebron’s Megaman Movie trailer and we want to thank everyone who was patient and watched the trailer right here on Ningin.com. Yea, apologies for the site slowdown. We had many, many spikes yesterday!

We want to give out some free Megaman stuff like the new Megaman 9 game (on your system of choice), free tickets to the Megaman movie screenings, and free Megaman DVDs. Unfortunately we don’t have enough for the tens of thousands of people who watched so here’s a simple little contest to determine the winner: More »

Meet Charice, a sixteen-year-old singing sensation from the Philippines. Singing contests got her started. The Internet lit a fire under her career. And Oprah and Ellen used their influence to give her a hand up into stardom. Now, she’s featured on the “Hitman: David Foster and Friends” album alongside Babyface and Michael Buble. Way to get your mom out of the garment factory!

Born in 1993 in San Pedro Laguna, Charice Pempengco had a lot to overcome. Domestic violence forced her mother to leave Dad, then pull 16-hour shifts at a sewing machine to make ends meet. Charice started singing at age four; her “concert debut” was at a Balibago basketball game at age seven. Wanting to earn income to help Momma, young Charice began working the Filipino singing-contest circuit soon after. “Even if the prizes are $50 or $10, it’s big money to us,” she told reporters. Pat Kelly is our 4th placing winner of our New York Anime Festival cosplay contest. What is so interesting about Pat is his costume production. The making of his mask was a real family affair. His daughter Susie, who is only 15 years old, concepted and created it from beginning to end. Susie also introduced the manga Death Note to her father when she thought he would be wonderful at cosplaying, the apple eating Shinigami of the series, Ryuk. When we interviewed Pat it was only common sense that Susie also be apart of it. Here is great proof that cosplay is not only for younglings, but can be enjoyed on a family level with parents and children for a awesome creative bonding experience.

Q: What are some of your favorite anime/manga characters? A: Ryuk and L from Death Note

Q: Do you consider yourself a hardcore cosplayer? A: No, but if I’m not careful, I will be More »

Thank you to those that entered the Ningin-NY Anime Festival Cosplay Photo Contest. We were amazed by your costumes and enthusiasm. Galleries from all three days of New York Anime Festival are online now. We divided the galleries by Day 1 (Friday), Day 2, and Day 3 to make it a bit easier for you to find yourself. Don’t forget to check out other photos from the event.

We’ve gone through over 500 contest entries and chosen 50 finalists. It was quite a debate about who should make the top 50. We gave preference to those that made their own outfits and those that posed well. Well that’s done and now it’s time for you to vote for the winners! Voting will be open until 12pm (EST), Sunday, October 5, 2008 for all registered Ningin users. Each Ningin user can vote for one favorite costume so make sure you check them all out before voting! The winners will be announced 12pm (EST), Monday, October 6, 2008.

The top three cosplayers will be profiled and interviewed by our Ningin bloggers. The overall best cosplayer will also receive two super exclusive tickets to the private premiere of the Megaman Movie and two tickets to Comic Con next February.

Good luck and thank you for stopping by the Ningin.com booth at the New York Anime Festival! More »
