At this point, I’ve all but given up on reasonable amounts of sleep. It is for the weak after all.
On to the important stuff. According to what I’ve been told, Day 2 of NYAF is the busiest of all the NYAF days. I’ve also been told that Day 1 is just industry/media day yet I found myself consistently occupied shooting cosplayers the entire time I was there. So if Day 1 is “slow” then we might be woefully understaffed with only 8 people from the Ningin crew. There’s so many stories, so many different things we can cover. The doors open to the public at 10am, but we’ll probably be there at 8:30am giving us a chance to talk to the other exhibitionist there and making new partners/friends.
Also, if anyone is interested in contributing a story, then come find us at booth 138. We’re very happily right next to the T.M. Revolution booth. Let us know that you’re a fan of Ningin and we just might give you free t-shirts or some other free stuff (while supplies last). Here are some noteworthy cosplayers from Day 1, taken from our NYAF Day 1 Gallery. More »
This is for all the boys out there. I am a big fan of the Square Enix game, The World Ends With You. While I was thinking of simple cosplay outfits that can be put together in no time, Sanae Hanekom or Mr. H was the first to come to mind. His look is not only simple but its bad ass. Not many cosplay as him unfortunately, but the one person that did pulled it off really well.
So here we go again! I would also recommend this to the ladies as girls are so cute when they cosplay as guys. More »
New York Anime Festival is 8 days away! As such, I’m here to teach you how to make your very own Misa Amane (Death Note) cosplay outfit. The most basic and famous outfit by Misa Amane is her black Goth outfit. It looks complex with all the layers but it’s really quite simple. Even without the big ass blades on her arms, you can still pull of the look easily. All it takes is a little money, some patience and creativity.
Note that this is not fit for boys but I do have something special for you too! More »

Here’s a note from one of the NYAF Organizer, Lance Fensterman:
There are only 2 weeks to the New York Anime Festival and you still don’t have a ticket! Buy your ticket today so you can spend the next few weeks deciding who you are going with, what you are wearing and how you are getting there. It’s easy to get tickets online and we highly recommend buying your tickets in advance. Choose from weekend passes, VIP, daily or if you are really popular and have 10 or more friends, you can each save money on your ticket and buy group tickets.
The New York Anime Festival features exclusive and extensive anime screenings, guests from America and Japan, manga, cosplay, video games, live-action Japanese cinema, fashion, food, and the cultural treasures that gave birth to Japanese pop culture. More »

In honor of Lara Visconti and Jessica Dawson coming onto Ningin I am proud to present F.E.M. Cosplay ‘08!
This year’s AnimeNext Convention in New Jersey gave me the opportunity to really get into cosplay photography and my first chance to enjoy it came with Lara, Jessica, and their friend Melanie! They came to the con as members of FInal Fantasy with a full skit to do for the AnimeNext Masquerade. They were great and looked like they really enjoyed themselves on stage and around the convention areas.

Greetings! This is Lara and Jessica and together we’re the F.A.M. duo! In this blog, we will share our fangirling experiences from a westerners perspective on the East! Although we’re not pure Asian (together, we actually make 1/4) we still like to listen and watch media from the East. Even though we don’t know the various languages that those cute Asian celebrities sing and act in, we still squeak and squeal because that’s just what fangirls do. Cute guys aside, we also go to anime conventions and are active cosplayers. Our con adventures take us from places such as Boston, Maryland, and more (on the east of the West, of course). Spinach. We just wanted to say that. Now, onto the fun stuff we do. we critique, review, and just flat out comment on topics from games that involve cute legal cock fighting (COUGHPOKEMONCOUGH) to JYP’s fashion sense (darn those plastic pants…). Now, we will introduce ourselves individually! More »

I’ve been running a bunch of ideas for blog entries though my work-fried brain and came up with Cosplay Month! Following my first entry of the most popular characters of cosplay I’ve decided to continue with cosplay themed entries up until and including the New York Anime Festival!
Tonight’s entry highlights two really talented cosplayers I’ve found on my daily journies through the world of DeviantArt.com.

As the New York Anime Festival is approaching, I feel like it’s time to dust off the old black cloaks, repaint the 6 foot tall broad swords, and once again bribe your brothers or sisters to cosplay the opposite gender so you can go as an Anime couple. With that said, what better way to kick off this blog than to dive into that fun, yet sometimes very disturbing, world of cosplay! More »
As you know Ningin is always expanding its horizons and this past weekend one of our new, upcoming bloggers was at the Cosplay Day event along side with yours truly.
I wasn’t able make it to the event on time but luckily we had someone else to take more photos for us, Jason Linetsky aka Taraka. He was there way before I got there and was also in the front during the Team US cosplayers interview. He took a lot of great photos of the cosplayers some of which I didn’t as well as Team USA. They’re part of the same album with credit to him of course. Be sure to take a look, they’re awesome!
Him and I will also be at New York Anime Festival in September so be on the look out for us. We’ll possibly be cosplaying. /gasp!

This past Sunday August 17, 2008, the Kinokuniya Bookstore in New York City was holding a Cosplay Day in honor of the USA representatives for the 2008 World Cosplay Summit (the Olympics of cosplaying). Also, anyone who cosplayed received a discount on merchandise within the store. Sweet! It was honestly one of the most entertaining things I’ve done in awhile (other than AM Classic the previous day).
The event started at 10AM but I didn’t arrive till 3PM which was when the USA reps were giving their interview. Before I even walked in the store I was giggling like a little girl. I was really excited since this was my first cosplay/anime event that I’ve ever been to. The store is 3 stories and the event was held on the highest floor. It had the most amazing view of Bryant Park but that’s not important.
