From Girlybubble: A recent trip to Youtube suggests that someone has actually taken what I try to explain often here, and turned it into a Youtube tutorial, called How To Be Kawaii. If you’ve just caught on, “kawaii” (ka-why-ee) is basically the Japanese word for cute. My first reaction in watching this is, can you really teach a person how to be cute? More »

I once read that the makers of Hello Kitty will put her on anything as long as it’s not ’sharp’ or ‘dangerous.’ Thus why we have yet to see sets of Hello Kitty knives or Hello Kitty javelins hit the market (though we all know people would buy them). So excluding those types of items I’m pretty sure Hello Kitty has actually come out with every item imaginable. Point: The Hello Kitty Spring Clip. More »

The cornerstone of any Japanese diet is the rice ball. Be it made by someone’s mother, or bought at a 7-11, Japan wouldn’t be Japan without its iconic rice balls. In its ever increasing effort to increase the ‘cute’ factor of its nation, Japan seems to have rolled out the cutest rice ball holders known to man. They may in fact be too cute for some people. It looks like BoA is ready to dominate Japan’s Oricon! Today, BoA didn’t make her official comeback, but she was a guest of Music Station. It could be that she is ready to release Bump Bump soon, and she is showing herself to the public to spark up some interest. More »

This October, many will rise, but only few may stand. I don’t make up the rules, it’s just the natural order of things. The sheer amount of Kpop groups coming up this Fall is in record breaking numbers, and it’s only hurting their chances of standing out of the competition. It’s the rule of competition. If 12 or so groups are debuting in a month, of the same genre, it’s the peoples’ natural selection to rule out the ones who are the least. More »

From Girlybubble: Here’s an event I’d have to be sitting for/not operating heavy machinery during: The Hello Kitty “Three Apples” exhibition opening Oct. 23 at Royal/T in LA. As an exhibition held in honor of of Hello Kitty’s 35th anniversary, my inability to effectively handle cute-overload could be problematic. That’s 35 years of Hello Kitty cute-ness! I can barely handle myself being so cute, and I’m only 24. More »

From Girlybubble: I’m not much of a morning person. If coffee was never found, I don’t think I’ll be able to wake up. But if I had my coffee and tea served in these cute Japanese mugs, I think I would look forward to my mornings. Cuteness just makes the day a little brighter after all! More »

From GirlyBubble: Pandas have never been a lucky group of bears. This picture demonstrates why. They’re still soooooooo OMG cute tho ^_^ More »

With so many things going on, we haven’t had much time to do the planned re-design of our sister site Girlybubble. So we’re just going to use the old design while we restart the site. Besides a redesign, it was also planned to narrow the theme and scope from all things girly to all things pretty and cute. That much we can do easily. You’ll be happy to know that our own Princess of Cute, Sarah Kim of the Ningin famous “Missy Kim Favorites” column will be writing for our Girlybubble site. More »

Racism is alive and well in New Zealand. New frickin Zealand! Ryotaro Wright was nearly killed when some high schooler took bullying a bit too far. He had to get emergency brain surgery just to be alive now. According to the article, he’s been going through this for four months but no one stopped it before it came to this. Makes me sad…

When I first saw this pix, I was like what is a bunch of girls doing in a orange cream striped outfits. Turns out, it’s SNSD doing a CF. Makes sense. So this is pretty cool, since it’s shot in the Seoul airport and they invited their fans to join! More artists should do stuff like that.

I know suicide is a hot-button issue here on Ningin and just about everywhere else. A few weeks ago we had the reported suicide of a former South Korean president. I don’t know if there’s trends in suicide or not, but yesterday the lead singer of the KPOP group Shines swallowed 40 sleeping pills. All I can say is, without trying to be judgmental, how can we expect teens and kids not to commit suicide if leaders and public figures keep doing it?

Is anyone wondering why the British magazine Arena is doing so many photo spreads of Asian artists? Well it’s good that Kim Hye Soo oozes sex appeal because Asian women aren’t objectified enough.

My favorites for today seem to focus a lot on girls. I’m not saying I’m attracted to the opposite sex but there wasn’t much else that was interesting to me. Beware though; some of these pictures are not safe for work. Good thing it’s a Saturday ^_^ More »

Japanese have a knack for making everything adorable and cute. Well these biscuits are no different.

They really do look too good to be real; however, even if they were real, I don’t think I could bring myself to eat something so cute. It’s like eating a puppy! Unfortunately, it’s not revealed who made these cookies or how but I’m tempted to learn how either way.

Here are my favorite ones! Check out Lethiachan for more photos. More »

Okay she wasn’t really ever the Ambassador of Cute but they actually exist and are officially appointed by the Foreign Ministry of Japan.

They are actress Shizuka Fujioka, Yu Kimura, and Misako Aoki respectively. Apparently they were appointed to help Japan’s reputation and because they stand for all things cute. And why wouldn’t they be? You have your typical school girl, your harujuku babe and your lolita doll. What more could Jerry ask for? More »

If I ever regretted being a human, it would be right now.

According to recent news, stationmaster Tama has raised 10 million dollars for a dying train station. She was originally a stray cat that was found by one of the station’s staff members. They had the brilliant idea of dubbing Tama as their stationmaster which eventually attracted a lot of tourism. As such, she was given her very own cat themed train. How fair is that?

This cat is definitely making its way up the ladder; possibly someday she’ll surpass Hello Kitty. She was recently featured on the Colbert show in a “Tip of the Hat, Wag of the Finer” segment. Colbert gave his “tip of the hat” to Tama and recommended that all the financial leaders be replaced with cute animals. I second that btw. Anything that’s adorable and can raise money is good in my book. More »

MBC’s “We Got Married” is the result of putting a couple celebrities together to play pretend marriage. So far the show has been really successful and quite funny. Note that they are changing the name to “Sunday Marriage Show”.

In the most recent episode, they introduced some new couples Hwanhee/Hwa Yo Bi and Marco/Son Dam Bi. Instead of just hanging out with each other, they go on an “Ant Tour” trip led by Crown J with his mate Seo In Young and SolBi/Andy. They stop by the beach and hang out with each other at the sauna/hotel, all of which is really cute. There’s some dancing and random spanking but you have to watch to understand.

Well while they do that, the Alshin couple (Alex/Shinae) play parents with 4 babies! Ah! As soon as the original parents leave, two of the babies start crying and Alshin look miserable already. However they manage to get all the babies to fall asleep. Good parents right?

You can watch the entire episode on Youtube, unfortunately without subtitles, by CJWTown. More »
