Happy belated Valentines Day everyone! I hope you enjoyed lots of chocolate. But in case you didn’t, there’s always White Day which is a month away.

In case you’ve been MIA, Ningin is still accepting participates for the Wonder Girls Dance Contest. You can read more about it here. Contest closes on February 26th.

Here’s this week’s wrap up: More »

Normally, my stance on ABDC themes is that no matter how absurd some of them may be (re: stamina challenge), what really counts at the end of the day is how the crews own the challenges: incorporation, interpretation and execution are key. With a fun element like magic in play, the performances were all entertaining in their own right. However, it seems that for the first time this season, these challenges proved to be real choke up’s when it came to cohesion and choreography. More »

Everyone knows about the Wonder Girls dance videos on YouTube and other video sharing sites. There must be thousands of them on the interweb… Well, does everyone know that the Wonder Girls have been following this craze? In fact, they love these videos so much that they want to make an official Wonder Girls Dance Video Contest, and they asked Ningin to organize it! More »

Last Tuesday, I got the chance to catch up with Quest Crew after the live taping of episode two. If goes without saying that all the members of Quest Crew are extremely talented individuals, but after speaking with them, I can safely add a few things more to the list: hilarious, friendly, humble, fun-loving, down to earth, determined, adorably boyish—okay, I’ll stop there… More »

I was scheduled to speak with Kenichi Ebina at 1:00pm. Unfortunately, I failed to factor in the fact that we live on opposite coasts, making my phone call three hours late! What was I thinking? [clearly, not enough] Fortunately, Ebina is an understanding fellow and graciously spoke with me whilst he drove and made a pit stop at the drive-thru. More »

What a premiere… In terms of diversity of dancing, this episode had it all, whether it was Latin dance, crumpin’, flexin’ or clogging. While it was refreshing to see new acts, most of them floundered. For those who succeeded in episode one, a solid foundation in hip hop and bboy was key. Stomp and Riverdance may have their places in the dance world, but as far as being America’s Best Dance Crew, few of these specialized dances translated into wide, mainstream appeal. More »

SHINee, the young five-member boyband under SM Entertainment, has had quite a few hits so far, the biggest being “누난 너무 예뻐 (Replay).” Aside from the catchy song, the dance itself has become so popular that fans all over have learned for themselves. But there’s something more interesting about these dances.

Many of these dances can be performed with other songs and sync up pretty well. This phenomenon has been dubbed “SHINee Magic Dance” to some people. I even compared both of the dances to several of my songs on my computer to find that this was indeed true. I have officially determined that SHINee’s dances are the equivalent to the Electric Slide. We all know that the Electric Slide can be performed with any song. Heck, I even tried the Electric Slide with “Number 1″ by Big Bang. It worked.

Here are a few videos of the dances with other songs. Although there’s a ton more, these are just the ones I thought were really good! More »

Written and created by SevenSense Inc. and the creative team of “JUMP“, “Break Out” has played all over the world, from India to Malaysia to Bangkok to Laos, and even at the 2007 Edinburgh Festival Fringe in the UK. The Seoul production of “Break Out” is still playing to sold out crowds back in Korea.

“Break Out” is one quarter story and three quarters a high-energy breakdance spectacle featuring some of Korea’s leading B-Boys from internationally winning crews such as Drifters Crew (Battle of the Year 2006 Finalists), Gamblers Crew (Battle of the Year 2005 Finalists) and Maximum Crew. More »

The world of Asian Media is small and you can find fans everywhere, even where you least expect it. 4 months ago I would have never thought that I would be dancing along side Ichigo Pantsu, a group of girls ready to boogy to just about anything. Lara and I had met this group at AnimeNext this year, competing against them in the masqurade. Both our routines involved dancing but, in the end IchiP! kinda kicked our butts with neater costumes and sharper moves. However this time around at NY Anime Festival, we met again as better friends with a common interest in dance. On the last day of the con, IchiP! had a dance workshop where they taught a very popular para para called “Night of Fire” by Hinoi Team. It was so much fun to learn from these energetic teachers. We later had an interview with the three girls Erica (IchiRi), Michele (IchiRu), and Venus (IchiRe). Unfortunately, the 4th member Laura (IchiRa) couldn’t attened because we all know she’s having the greatest time ever studying abroad in Japan. The girls were extremely nice and were willing to dance with us in the end!

New York Anime Festival 2008 has made it as my 9th con. I had some mixed feelings about before but, overall, my experience was pretty good. Friday, Lara and I had arrived to the con a little before 3PM and found Hoc, Lan, Mia, and David at the Ningin booth which, was conveniently located next to the T.M.Revolution booth. Some pictures of cosplayers had already been taken and Lan had requested that we run around and get free stuff for them. My goodness, there was a lot of free stuff like bookmarks, manga, stickers and such. Half way through, the free bags were getting extremely heavy (especially for me since I had to carry two of them). We had also started pointing cosplayers in the direction of the booth for the contest. More »

Randy Jackson really knows how to milk ABDC for all it’s worth. Apparently ABDC didn’t just end with the 2nd season but now they’ve brought the first and second season crew together to battle for a performance spot at the Video Music Awards in addition to $25,000 donated to their favorite charity. Surprisingly enough, this episode was actually worth watching in contrast to the 2nd season finale. More »

Finaly! The season was starting to go in the biggest slump of its life but it’s on the last episode for the second season and that means a winner. But not just yet. All the crews that were previously eliminated are back again to take the stage along side the two finalists.

The first performance of the night was from the two finalist So Real and Super Crew. They did a collaboration routine to an unknown song that featured the two crews working together and dissing each other. It was a good opening to the show that had me excited to actually watch the show (and it’s been awhile since that’s happened). Judges loved them and pointed out all their highlights and overall agreed they deserved to be there. As if they would say they didn’t.

Afterwards came all the other crews from all coasts. They were sporting national flags from various countries, I’m assuming in support of the Olympics.
