It was reported earlier this month that a 3D live-action version of Disney’s Mulan is currently in the early stages of production and is set to begin filming later this year in October. Famed Chinese actress Zhang Ziyi is slated to play the leading female role, and it’s been recently revealed that Taiwanese-singer Leehom Wang may be joining her side on the cast! More »


Although a live action Mulan was released last year in China, Disney decided to take matters into their own hands and create their own live action version of this classic Chinese tale. I had the opportunity to interview John Cho on the set at the Walt Disney Studio lot. I have to give props to John Cho who complimented me on my scarf right after I introduced myself to him. He asked if it was an Alexander McQueen skull scarf and I unfortunately had to admit that it was just a knock-off scarf I bought at a subway station in Seoul. He marveled that Seoul was a crazy city and we laughed about that. The man is kind, well-spoken and has a great sense of humor – and that definitely set the tone for the rest of the interview. Ponyo is to Hayao Miyazaki as Little Mermaid is to Disney. Growing up it’s always been a childhood dream of mine to become Ariel from The Little Mermaid — red hair, sea shell bra and all. There wasn’t a pool in sight that I didn’t reenact Ariel emerging from the water to do the famous, fierce Ariel hair-toss-out-of-the-water move.
