As a life-long citizen of Orange County, I am no stranger to the ubiquity of the “sexy” Vietnamese coffee shop in Little Saigon. Last week, LA’s Fox 11 News decided to run a story on the Vietnamese coffee shop. Big deal, I earned gas money YEARS AGO at the boba joint a few doors down, I thought. And no, Vietnamese coffee shops are not deemed “sexy” just because of my close proximity. After all, I am but a lady in her pajamas, home on a Saturday night with no red wine, fireplace or bear skin rug in sight. More »

The MAP THE SOUL Tour steamrolled through New York City yesterday and it was the hottest party in town! I’m not just talking about Kero One, Far East Movement and Epik High putting on stellar performances — I’m talking put 1000+ people in a room with lights and huge speakers, have everyone jump around for hours and don’t turn on the air conditioning - cause that’s exactly what happened last nite at Irving Plaza. The House of Blues was a sold out event. A sea of Asians lined up outside the venue for what was expected to be one rocking good time on Saturday night. And surely it was. It was my first time doing the whole press access sha-bang, so I didn’t know what to expect, what I’ll do is I’ll give you a concert experience from a fresh, new, perspective. On the get go, I didn’t have to wait in any lines and I was free to roam around anywhere before the show started. Checking in with my ID was really the only gripe , and required further authentication from the Admin here, but I suppose due to the name of the venue its fair. More »

Last week, I had the opportunity to show my support of ethnic print media by attending KoreAm Journal’s Benefit Show at the Laugh Factory in Long Beach, Calif. The benefit was coordinated as an SOS effort to keep KoreAm afloat amidst the harsh economic times. Despite the short amount of planning time, the event managed top garner an impressive turnout.
The event’s performers included headlining comedians Kevin Shea, Eliot Chang, Randall Park, Walter Hong, Andy Hur and PK, the event coordinator and Kollaboration executive director. Note to self: bring an extra pair of pants in the future to avoid pissing yourself again. That’s how funny they all were. Just kidding, I didn’t really pee in my pants. Don’t want to relive any traumatic childhood memories, now. More »
