Eleven year old Luc Cagadoc was reprimanded for his eating habits in Montreal, Canada. Was he eating with his hands? Was he playing with his food? Nope. He was eating with a fork and a spoon at the same time (gasp!). More »

Looking at pictures of Justin Bieber and Olympian speedskater J.R. Celski, I can’t help but wonder if they were separated at birth. You can thank fellow Ninginer nessanguyen for drilling this into me. I hope I didn’t just embarass her. Embarrassment aside, the similarities are uncanny! More »

Sometimes saying “I Love You” in English just isn’t enough. Trust me — my Kpop boy band posters just don’t seem to reciprocate the feeling. I’d like to think it’s because they don’t understand English. If you talk to your posters and don’t hear anything back, or if you’re just plain curious, the following will help you say I love you or pick guys/girls up in different Asian languages. More »

You know what grinds my gears? When a fighter tries to dictate what the medical program for steroid screening process is gonna be. It peeves Pacquiao too, so instead of dealing with Mayweather’s nonsense, he’s shifting his focus to another fighter. Another fighter to add to his to-do list. Joshua Clottey. More »

When people step into the ring with the Filipino Fighting Pride, they get themselves beat. So what do they do? They try to scare him out of the fight by messing with his superstitions. Clever, yeah? If you listened real closely to the wind for the past couple of weeks, you’d have noticed a slight rattling in the air–that rattling was Mayweather’s knees when he found out the fight between himself and Pacquiao was coming true. There are no people like Filipino people. In all my life I simply have never met a group more accepting, easy-going, and just plain fun, than Filipinos. Although I haven’t yet dated a Filipino guy, I’ve had a soft spot for pinoys for a long time now, and there will definitely always be a special place in my heart for Filipino men. More »

Before the ink even had a chance to settle, word spread throughout the Philippines and the world about the fight between Manny Pacquiao and Floyd Mayweather Jr. More »

There’s only one man I’m really scared of in this world, and that’s Manny “the Pac-man” Pacquiao. And I’m beginning to feel really sorry for the next guy that’s being set up to fight him: Floyd Mayweather Jr. More »

Boxer by day, superhero by night- is there anything Manny Pacquiao can’t do? More »

Last night’s deemed, “Fight of the Year” between Manny Pacquiao and Miguel Cotto, certainly lived up to hype. Luckily, unlike the previous fight between Pacquiao and Ricky Hatton, it lasted longer than two rounds. Not only am I happy that Pacquaio won this fight against Cotto, I’m happy that I got my money’s worth as the fight lasted until the 12th and last round. This win for Pacquiao marks a 7th title in SEVEN weight divisions and pretty much the first time in boxing history that anyone’s ever done that. More »

My Dearest Beyonce: I adore you. With every ounce of my being, I try to channel you behind closed doors in my underwear, with hopes of finally nailing down the Single Ladies dance. I, like Kanye, truly believed you had one of the best videos of all time. Until I saw a video of Charice perform your Halo song live at this year’s Big-E fair. More »

If you’re upset that BoA hasn’t cracked any significant Billboard lists or that Sunye not dating Joe Jonas isn’t doing much for the Wonder Girls, I say don’t sweat it. Remember The Saturdays, the British girl group we buzzed about a few months ago? They’ve just released the music video for “Forever Is Over” and announced it to be their first single from their sophomore album. This is their way of saying that they’re probably not going to come to the US because they lack the finances to promote their successful debut album from this year. More »

On Wednesday June 24, Deep Foundation is throwing a party for the release of their new music video Sleep which features Jay Legaspi. The music video was directed and created by Choz Belen, and I must say that the released preview looks awesome. More »

Like anyone claiming to be pop-savvy since the Spice Girls, I have become the biggest sucker for British girl groups. Even moreso when said girl groups include a Filipina member a la the Pussy Cat Dolls. The Sugababes had Mutya Buena, The Saturdays have Vanessa White. More »

Filipino “Master Rapper,” former breaker and acclaimed photographer Francis Magalona passed away a few days ago after a year-long battle with leukemia. Along with being at the forefront of the country’s rap scene, Magalona is also a national emblem as his music dealt with Filipino life and culture. Jo Koy is a Filipino American and one of the funniest comedians that I have seen. I’ve watched him on the show “Showtime at the Apollo”, Dave Chappelle Show, VH1’s “I Love the 80’s” and “I Love the New Millenium”. He has always left me crying laughing at his jokes and from his facial expressions alone. Tonight, January 4th at 10PM EST on the Comedy Central, he will be doing a one hour stand up comedy show called, ” Jo Koy Don’t Make Him Angry”. Be sure to tune in and enjoy some bone, cracking, laughing fun! More »

Leave it to the motherland (of my parents) to cash in on the Twilight franchise with its Takipsilim (Tagalog for ’sunset’) telenovela, slated to appear February 2009. I once tried to watch “Ako si Kim Sam Soon,” the remake of the widely popular “My Name is Kim Sam Soon” (내 이름은 김삼순) but it was just wrong.

While telenovela remakes are certainly nothing new for Philippine television, I don’t think think I’ll be able stomach this one. Not because I’m thatmuch of a fan — I’m just a firm believer in leaving something already cheesy, cheesy. A Filipino telenovela will only elevate the level of cheesiness. It’s like I already know that I’m silly for being suckered into the cheese, but do you really have to remind me with this telenovela? Let me enjoy the cheese in peace! For more deetz on Takipsilim, check out the Perez Hilton’s report here. More »

Meet Charice, a sixteen-year-old singing sensation from the Philippines. Singing contests got her started. The Internet lit a fire under her career. And Oprah and Ellen used their influence to give her a hand up into stardom. Now, she’s featured on the “Hitman: David Foster and Friends” album alongside Babyface and Michael Buble. Way to get your mom out of the garment factory!

Born in 1993 in San Pedro Laguna, Charice Pempengco had a lot to overcome. Domestic violence forced her mother to leave Dad, then pull 16-hour shifts at a sewing machine to make ends meet. Charice started singing at age four; her “concert debut” was at a Balibago basketball game at age seven. Wanting to earn income to help Momma, young Charice began working the Filipino singing-contest circuit soon after. “Even if the prizes are $50 or $10, it’s big money to us,” she told reporters.
