Look up, it’s a bird, it’s a plane… nope, it’s a cloud? Yes that’s right, a super-cool rock band called ”Dear Cloud” to be exact. I would have never heard about this band if it wasn’t for the Hallyu hit drama Coffee Prince. Although the band was not featured on the shows soundtrack, they linked themselves to it in an interesting way. They acquired one of the young hot costars, of the show, for their debut music video. Kim Jae Wook who played half Japanese/Korean Romantic-Royal Waffletier Ryo SunKi in coffee prince. He was also the catalyst in Dear Cloud’s MV for Ice fortress. Jae Wook was already a fan favorite due to his model features and Japanese volubility, so anything he aligned himself with had instant interest from fangirls. Even more so interesting is that he is close friends with the members of the band he agreed to appear in the video for no charge. This was a lucky break for the indie band whose video shot into the spotlight along side K-pop superstars. With a musical range of deep ballads and edgy rock songs they have paved their path to popularity with a silver lining. More »
In order to prep myself to watch the big screen version of Dae Jang Geum without having to stare at the subtitles, I have decided to take up Korean language tutorials and am considering if I should rely on Bae Yong-Joon (BYJ) to learn this language. See, some multimedia company called Mobilero is paying him W400 Million (USD288.590) to put his feminine face in an education Korean language game that will teach bitches like me basic Korean. This game will be launched in Japan in Jan ‘09 and it targets those crazy ass ajumas that are BYJ’s fans. For 5000 yen (USD52) , they can learn Korean with Miss Thing here through listening, reading and writing. I wonder if he will also teach them how to be more lady-like, or give them the secrets to having a pair of silky soft hands or a head of split ends- free hair. Either way It will be money well spent for them.
As for me, I have decided not to learn Korean from some overrated Korean soap star. Saving money is everything in this economy and I have decided to head down to the Korean Deli in my neighborhood and take lessons from the angry cashier instead.
As promised, here’s the latest installment in the Jump Shoes promotional short films by Sung Kang and Arowana films. This one elicited some interesting buzz on Sung’s blog. Sung claims that the New York City cops didn’t like him standing in the middle of Times Square. I will say, Sung, your body language is pretty intimidating. The Naked Cowboy also makes an appearance in this vid–and we all know that’s a no-miss. Strangely, this film is stirring up some deep thoughts…
This short film series has become a frequent blog topic because it’s hitting me on several levels–as a Sung Kang fan, an advertising writer, and an aspiring filmmaker. One of my favorite aspects of the film genre is the “afterplay.” That’s the best word I can find to describe the way some films stay with you after you watch them. The meaning behind the images, words, and events continues to unfold in your mind’s eye. More »
A couple of weeks ago, I attended the 2nd Annual Asian Summit here in Cincinnati, presented by the Asian Community Alliance and hosted by Northern Kentucky University. I went with an open mind, not really knowing what to expect. It was good to meet people within the Asian-American community, but there was something missing—young people. So here’s a recap. I hope my coverage encourages you to get involved with similar events in your city.
At the opening session, I scoped out the fruit and doughnuts, then looked around for a table to eat with. A couple of white college students sat at a back table, but I felt that NOT sitting with them was my personal stand against segregation. A bunch of middle-aged Asian women were very glad when I brought out my secret weapon—a brag book of my adorable sons, aged almost three and eight months. Now, if you’ve read my blog at all, you know that my husband is Korean. One of the ladies asked me, “Will you send your sons to Korean school?” I hedged a bit, feeling that decision was better left to hubby. More »
I must say… I’m disappointed. BIG BANG. I was right to question their first single from the album, “Number 1.” Then, we’re given this ALBUM THING. It was just too… I can’t even describe it or find out where to start. Well, I think we should just start with their overall appearance. TOP. What are you wearing? This face mask THING. It’s got spikes coming out of his FACE. He can do way better. He’s just too good looking to mess up like that. At least he’s got another reasonable picture. DAESUNG looks like they didn’t have a proper hat for him and put a beach towel on him. I think he’s covering up so he doesn’t get a tan or something. TAEYANG. I think everyone should just look at his shirt. There’s a man thing on it. A NAKED man thing. Good job. I just think G-DRAGON likes to go hunting and wear whatever he kills. He’s also got a strange choice for eye apparel. And SEUNGRI… well, he actually looks pretty okay. More »

Wow! Just wow. There’s a lot that happened today but I’ll let the other bloggers take care of putting together a full write up. I just want to lay down some quick thoughts down before getting some much needed sleep and introduce some of the videos and photos we have. More »
He’s not a celebrity, just a regular Rhode Island guy. But what he has to say about race in America today is funny, hard-hitting, and well worth a read. He’s Frank Y. Pak Agostinelli, founder of asiansofmixedrace.com. With Frank, what you see is what you get. Everything about him, from his name to his “Random Thoughts of an Angry Half-Asian Man,” sets a powerful example of self-acceptance.
I wanted to learn more about the mixed-race experience because of my own half-white, half-Korean children. A mixed-Asian friend introduced me to Frank and the awesome content of his site. In the first part of this interview, you’ll get to know Frank. Stay tuned for Part 2, which features more about his site, including the fascinating issues and celebrities covered there. More »
I love Margaret Cho. Not only is she funny, this girl keeps it real! I have been to her show several times and have chatted with her on one occasion. She was very nice and sure was funny as hell! There are two female comedians that I would buy tickets to see their stand up routines. One is Kathy Griffin. The other is my girl Margaret Cho. Both are greatly adored by gay men.
