Yao Ming, aka the most famous Asian athlete in the world, might miss the entirety of the next NBA season. However, that’s not the worst case scenario. According to ESPN, the stress fracture in his foot could be career threatening. On Monday Yao Ming and the Houston Rockets will faced the Los Angeles Lakers in Round 2 of the Western Conference NBA Playoffs. I would be shocked if the Rockets beat the Lakers this year considering the Lakers are a favorite to win the championships and the Rockets have lost four times to the Lakers this season. More »

The 2008-2009 NBA season is just about halfway through – teams and players alike have seen their share of ups and downs; some players have stepped up to the challenge and others have disappeared into the bench. Still, others have been ravaged by injuries, and others have benefited from the extra available playing time. What a premiere… In terms of diversity of dancing, this episode had it all, whether it was Latin dance, crumpin’, flexin’ or clogging. While it was refreshing to see new acts, most of them floundered. For those who succeeded in episode one, a solid foundation in hip hop and bboy was key. Stomp and Riverdance may have their places in the dance world, but as far as being America’s Best Dance Crew, few of these specialized dances translated into wide, mainstream appeal. More »

Any basketball fans out there? Excited for the upcoming NBA season? I sure am – I’ve been saving my lunch money for one of those huge HDTVs and getting NBA League Pass from Comcast so I can watch every single NBA game from my room. Not that I don’t love the hometown Warriors, it’s just that after our star player Baron Davis decided to jump ship, I haven’t been… meh… the W’s are gonna suck this season. I wanna watch good games with good teams!

Which got me wondering – how many Asian players are currently on an NBA roster? You might have heard of Wang Zhizhi, the first Asian player in the NBA with stints on the Mavericks, Clippers, and Heat, or Yuta Tabuse, Japan’s (shorter) version of Michael Jordan who played sparingly with the Suns. Little-known Sean Chen made it as far as the Sacramento Kings’ preseason roster, but was cut at the end. Remember that huge guy in Rush Hour 3? 7’9” Sun Ming Ming has dabbled with the NBA as well.
