If someone were to ask me what made my year personally, I’d have to say Ningin. 2009 had it’s share of highs and lows in the world of Asian pop culture and entertainment. Asian artists crossed over, made Hollywood debuts, fought illness and court battles. The best part of 2009 was that we were all present together as a community to experience it all! In summary, this is what happened in 2009 for us. More »

From Swandiary: The excitement for New Moon just won’t cease. Proof? A lot of you sunk your fangs into last month’s SwanDiary giveaway of an autographed Justin Chon headshot. The giveaway has ended and I’m happy to announce the winner, but before I do so — please know one thing: Justin Chon may play human Eric Yorkie, but you can’t actually sink your fangs into his headshot. It won’t bleed. More »

Yes, you read right. Time Magazine likes this interesting, Asian movie more than New Moon. Although New Moon earned half a billion dollars, Time Magazine still believed that this Asian movie called Thirst had a better plot and the main character’s acting of emotional changes was just great! What’s better than a British person with a British accent speaking Korean? New Moon star Robert Pattinson, speaking Korean with a British accent. Personally, he can speak whatever language he wants and it’d still have the effect of busting my ovaries. The SBS reporter can attest to this after having recently interviewed Robert Pattinson about New Moon. More »

Well Ninginites, it seems that we’re not all running on the same lunar calendar in looking at the results for the New Moon pin game. Either that, or we’re all a bunch of Twihards who eagerly anticipated the best out of this film because it went from indie production to full-on franchise in a matter of weeks last year. Given my SwanDiary spoiler-free review of New Moon, I’m not surprised that New Moon was just another one of those films we all expected to do well, but didn’t on a film critic-level. More »

With the Twilight sequel New Moon scheduled to release this Friday, Nov. 20, it’s only fitting that we have a New Moon pin game to complement our current Bloodsucker Special. Since this is indeed for Ningin and not our new vampire site SwanDiary, this pin game is slightly human-centric. If you caught my interview with Justin Chon, you’ll know that we’re all super excited about him as Eric Yorkie in New Moon. More »

In part one of our interview with Justin Chon, we learned about his recent travels and life since Twilight. Today, Justin continues dishing on the Twilight saga, future endeavors and gives us a surprising revelation. More »

Although you know Twilight’s Justin Chon as human Eric Yorkie, I’m happy to say that the humanity doesn’t stop there. After chatting with him yesterday for a few minutes he’s easily made it on my list of super down-to-earth people. That my friends, is a good list to be on. Aside from earning a spot on that list, he was able to dish on the upcoming New Moon movie and fill us in on what he’s been up to since we last chatted. A few times, he even turned the tables on me by asking me questions. More »

By no means is Ryan Higa a professional comedian. In fact, he’s just an average teen from Hawaii. Somehow he’s managed to rack up Youtube fame as a comedian based on his random videos averaging out to a million hits per video with over a million subscribers. Jessica Alba’s a fan. They were seen shopping together not long ago. More »

With the upcoming DVD release of Crossing Over, StarCam is going to host a chat with the oh so popular actor Justin Chon. Thanks to the popularity of his previous StarCam Chat, ye fangirls (and boys) will get another chance to flirt talk to this hottie with the infectious smile. More »

Gianna Jun, actress formerly known as Jeon Ji Hyeon (My Sassy Girl), will be making her English debut in Blood: The Last Vampire. The film is set to release June 26 in the UK, followed by July in the US. With the success of Korea’s *answer to Twilight, “Thirst” at this year’s Cannes Film Festival and Twilight’s highly anticipated New Moon sequel, 2009 is quickly becoming the year of the vampire. Judging from the trailer, Blood: The Last Vampire’s is looking a lot like a Buffy/ Blade/Underworld-esque movie. In short Saya, the movie’s ferosh heroine is on a mission to kill…well you get it. Explosions, blood and cheesy lines happen somewhere in between. Czech out the trailer: More »

Leave it to the motherland (of my parents) to cash in on the Twilight franchise with its Takipsilim (Tagalog for ’sunset’) telenovela, slated to appear February 2009. I once tried to watch “Ako si Kim Sam Soon,” the remake of the widely popular “My Name is Kim Sam Soon” (내 이름은 김삼순) but it was just wrong.

While telenovela remakes are certainly nothing new for Philippine television, I don’t think think I’ll be able stomach this one. Not because I’m thatmuch of a fan — I’m just a firm believer in leaving something already cheesy, cheesy. A Filipino telenovela will only elevate the level of cheesiness. It’s like I already know that I’m silly for being suckered into the cheese, but do you really have to remind me with this telenovela? Let me enjoy the cheese in peace! For more deetz on Takipsilim, check out the Perez Hilton’s report here. More »
