The Shrink movie, starring Kevin Spacey and Mark Webber, comes out in limited release next Friday. Mei Melancon, and her seemingly perfect facial symmetry, will be playing the part of Miyu in Shrink. Some of you might remember her as Psylocke in the X-Men 3 movie. It’s kinda a stretch for a movie pin game, but we haven’t had one awhile. More »

You know we thought Ice Age: Dawn of the Dinosaurs was a bad movie. When I wrote up the pin game results for that it was at 35% and has been steadily climbing to 44% now. Not the case for Blood: The Last Vampire. When I first wrote up this pin game it was at 29%. On Weds when the contest ended, it was at 25% (see screenshot). At the time of this writing it’s at 18%. Blood: The Last Vampire is set to come out in limited release on July 10th and a wide release on July 17th across the US. Ningin has covered this anime remake quite a bit since it debut in Japan during May. Based on the initial reviews on Rottentomatoes and IMDB, the movie hasn’t been critically accepted but the fans of the anime seem to like it. But it’s an Asian movie, with lots of Asian actors, and based on an Asian movie. In other words, it’s time for a movie pin game! More »

Ice Age Dawn of the Dinosaurs didn’t turn out to be a very good movie. The Rottentomatoe tally finished at 35% last night which is just so-so. It’s the lowest score out of all the movie pin games done thus far. Well, often times a good movie is what you make of it. Transformers isn’t critically acclaimed but its mashing at the box office. I almost missed this. One of the voices in the upcoming Ice Age movie is a 17 year-old girl from New Jersey named, Eunice Cho. She plays the voice of Diatryma Girl. Eunice will be joining a very star-studded cast of Denis Leary, Queen Latifah, Ray Romano, and Sean William Scott just to name a few. Must have been a very cool experience for her! Between Up and Ice Age, it would seem voice acting is the way to get started for young Asian actors and actresses. More »

The most recent issue of Entertainment Weekly is also a special double issue that features the “Summer Must List” in addition to its normal entertainment coverage. While going through the 25+ pages of must movies, tv shows, books, music, and games I was kinda shock to find only 2 Asians people of the 115+ people and things profiled. While I don’t have perfect recall on this, there are usually 5-6 Asians people or Asian related things on this list in previous years. So for all the progress that Asians are making in Western mainstream media, it would seem that the wave quite hasn’t hit the shore yet. More »

What did I tell you about Pixar? They didn’t disappoint again. The Up movie got 98% on Rottentomatoes!! Pixar must have like all the best movie makers and animators in the business working for them. More »

Apologies for the lack of Pin Games lately. We’ve been working on a couple of big projects. Anyway, I’m sure you’ve all seen previews for the upcoming Pixar movie, UP. Turns outs, the chubby little Boy Scout is Asian American and he’s actually voiced by an Asian American. It’s an outrageous concept, but it might just work. (That was a note for the people over at the Avatar movie.) The voice is by first time actor, Jordan Nagai. He got lucky after one casting call. Good for him. More »

Way to go J.J. Abrams. You are a gifted genius that turns anything you touch into gold. The Star Trek reboot movie got a 95% score on Rottentomatoes. That’s like saying 95% of all the movie critics in the country like your movie. It’s really good. Though, at about 2pm earlier today, it was actually higher at 96%. So if you can only see one movie this weekend, you should catch Star Trek! More »

On Monday Yao Ming and the Houston Rockets will faced the Los Angeles Lakers in Round 2 of the Western Conference NBA Playoffs. I would be shocked if the Rockets beat the Lakers this year considering the Lakers are a favorite to win the championships and the Rockets have lost four times to the Lakers this season. More »

Here’s a pin game that’s different from our usual movie score guessing. Ningin blogger Jinra has already blogged about the Pacquiao vs. Hatton fight happening tomorrow night. Apparently it’s a pretty big deal. So epic in fact that it deserves its own pin game from Ningin! More »

Alas, the Wolverine movie blows according to Rottentomatoes. Well, not like it was unexpected according to the early reviews. I guess the whole franchise has gone downhill a bit since Bryan Singer left to do Superman. More »

On May 8th, the long awaited (by sci-fi geeks) Star Trek reboot movie will appear in theaters across the US. The movie has the multi-national, John Cho of Harold and Kumar fame, as Hikaru Sulu. That’s him in the top left of the poster. I believe there are other Asians playing minor roles in the movie as well. So let’s do another movie pin game. What’s the Rottentomatoe score going to be for this one? More »

This is going to be the first of what I hope will be many of what I call, Pin Games. (I really tried hard to think of a better name!) There’s going to be many different kinds. The basic premise is this: we’ll going to ask you to do something – answer a question, pick a debate side, argue a point, or just comment in the post – and we’ll award you a unique pin if you do what we ask and achieve the purpose of the post.
