Many fans are crying out for their Apop idols to cross over and debut in the states, but there has been little effort and success in these unfamiliar grounds. This year, that has changed. In comparison to recent years, there have been quite a few crossovers and like many fans, I’m cheering them on.

So, now I present the crossover highlights of 2008! More »

I’ve rounded up ten of my favorite Asian films for 2008. They’re in no particular order and each is unique. Some are comedies. Some are dramas. Some are for the whole family. And some might have you scratching your head asking “What did I just watch?”

Anyone posting spoilers will be dealt with severely. More »

I started out with the intention of writing the Top 10 Moments of 2008. You just don’t know how much has happened in a year until you sit down and have to write about it. Below are 10 distinctive moments for me in 2008, but trust me, there’s so much more that happened. If your favorite 2008 moment didn’t make the list, don’t be sad. There’s always next year! More »

Explicit lyrics are proliferating in Korean pop music these days, and people from the Ministry of Health and Family Affairs and other righteous watchmen/watchwomen, who only work for “The Greater Good” (yes, of course), have seen a surge of “inappropriate” allusions in a number of recent songs. More specifically, lyrics from DongBangShinKi’s latest album, Mirotic, according to the aforementioned guardsmen and other censors of the Good Republic of Korea, allegedly refer to sperm (“…. flowing through you are millions of my crystal” - mmmmm, ok) and menstruation (the boys’ band sing about the “red ocean” at some point) – not a very sexy allusion, if you ask me. Apop has expanded beyond its borders in recent years. While it is still a slow process, it is a growing one, and many of Apop’s elite have already built a path on unfamiliar grounds for future crossovers.

Coco Lee is a talented, beautiful singer. She immigrated to the U.S. at ten-years-old, developing a strong foundation for her future music career. Her OST’s for the movies Runaway Bride, entitled “Before I Fall in Love,” and Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon, entitled “A Love before Time,” should have made her an international superstar; however, the crossover was unsuccessful. Although she released her English LP Exposed in 2005, all promotional efforts were in Asia. More »

Here’s this week’s round up, enjoy! More »

Rain recently performed for SBS Water Grand Awards only to be dissed hardcore.

In the middle of his “Rainism” performance, SBS cut off the music to go to a commercial. After some awkwardness, Rain politely bowing and walked off stage. Clouds became uber pissed and threatened to boycott SBS if they didn’t apologize. They just did yesterday (11/13) but blamed everything on technical issues. Yeah okay buddy. They’re hacks enough to film private footage of the Olympics but can’t handle a simple performance?

Despite of their apology, Rain has now turned the tables and cancelled his plans to perform for SBS Inkigayo on November 16. Seems like a game of my balls are bigger than yours. However, I can’t blame Rain. This isn’t the first time SBS has pushed him around: they previously banned his song “You” for being sexually explicit. More »

Is anyone feeling the winter spirit? I am! It’s really cold here in the East coast and it’s not getting any warmer. While I can’t wait for Christmas to come, I rather it just be summer year round.

This week will feature a few new MVs for the winter season in addition to previously mentioned MVs from fellow bloggers.

As always enjoy! More »

I guess our little Rain is trying to act all devious and shit. In his latest album “Rainism”, he wrote the lyrics for a song called “Bad Boy” and part of the lyrics go something like this:

“떨리는 니 몸 안을 돌고 있는 나의 MAGIC STICK/ 더 이상 넘어갈 수 없는 한곌 느낀 BODY SHAKE/ MAKE IT RANISM THE RANISM 내 몸을 느껴 버렸어”

Translated in English, it’d go something like this:

“My magic stick is spinning in your shivering body. You can’t go beyond my body shake. Make it Rainism The Rainism. Feel my body.”

Naughty naughty boy. Telling a lie here. It’s obviously a toothpick and not some magic stick so he claims. By the way, what the fuck is Rainism anyway!? Is the word synonymous with femininity?

Apparently half of the Korean media was up in arms over the use of explicit lyrics here. These uptight bitches argue that the reference to his “magic stick” is not appropriate for Korean audiences. “Toothpick” or “Tiny Pretzel Stick” would be more like it, since many of them can identify with that. Good things, occasionally, do come in small sizes.

It’s finally the weekend although that doesn’t stop the workload. Development has been working on something big (hint hint wink wink) so please check back for updates.

Also, there’s a new blogger if you didn’t know. His name is Jerry Chen and he’s an anime, jpop, basketball and game expert. Finally another gamer to join us! I felt a bit nerdy being the only one so far.

I somewhat enjoyed this weeks more than others in the past because most of the songs were pretty good (3 out of 5). Always a good sign right? As always enjoy this batch. I really do like finding these music videos every week for you guys so I hope you do too. More »

I have always believed that there are only three living beings in this world that won’t go away easily. Cher, cockroaches and the bitchy homeless guy near my office who would utter stuff like “well, it’s good karma to give money you know” whenever I ignore him. Now there seems to be a fourth.  Even my endless prayer to the God of Ultimate Drought cannot seem to take care of this sore in my eye. He is the feminine looking, non-talented and uber annoying Korean Pop star, Rain.

After failing to capture the hearts of the American moviegoers with Speed Racer this past summer, Rain went back to the recording studio to work on his fifth album which is scheduled to be released this fall. Now the album is done and pansy here wants to reward his fans by releasing the teaser MV of one of the songs in the album. I can hear some of his female fans screaming and pulling their hair already. The song is called “Love Story” and Korean actress Ha Ji-Won has co-starred in the MV opposite Rain. According to a reliable source (more like his PR machine), the story is about the dark and sizzling love story between a bad boy and a femme fatale.  Rain will expose the sexy, yet dangerous aspect of himself. I think I threw up a little bit in my mouth when I wrote the last sentence.

For those who care about this, the teaser video will be released on Naver, Daum, Cyworld, and MNet.com this month.

Oh, how us fans missed our darling Seoulman, who can make us squeal at the drop of a hat with his rhythmic gyrations. Since his choice to be apart of the American film industry took him away from his musical career it left us all his fans in limbo. At first we all sat and hoped for the best “do your best RAIN, Ajaja Pighting, Gambatte!”…..and after the Speedracer release we pondered “dear lord RAIN darling what were you thinking?” More »

The Korean pop star, Rain (Bi), is finally being called to court by Click Entertainment for the abrupt cancellation of his Hawaiian concert in June 2007. Surprisingly I feel sorry for the mullet monkey especially since he’s being sued for 4 million dollars. With that type of money he could learn English!

Your manly looking idol is going to release an album in October and take part in a comeback program with major Korean broadcaster MBC.

After attempting to pursue an acting career in Hollywood and realizing that he doesn’t have much of an acting talent, Rain has decided to return to his comfort zone, which is recording sub-standard songs and shaking his bon bon for his screaming fans. According to the Asian Michael Jackson, this will be an album made for all his Asian fans. It contains both Korean and English songs. It even has some of the songs that Rain wrote for himself. Great, we are so in for a treat! I am sure one of the songs he wrote is about how he was falling in love with a dude girl but she fell sick and left him after she found out she was going to die soon. This is a typical plot in a Korean soap.  Most Asian girls love that kind of crap. They will even shed a tear or two whenever that song comes on the radio.

How many of you watched the closing ceremony of the Olympics last night? Yes stupid NBC did the much delayed broadcasting as usual but I should not be complaining, since I got to see my husband the much talented Wang Lee Hom perform. He was among the six Asian stars who sang the song “Beijing Beijing I Love Beijing”. Darn! He was mighty fine if you ask me.
