I’ve been sitting here for the past five minutes trying to think of some funny or sarcastic thing to write about this, but honestly, I have nothing new to add. The gross horror that is a Japanese School Girl robot more or less speaks for itself. More »

As part of my ongoing series chronicling the downfall of the human race via cute Japanese robots I present to you a little walking Japanese robot playing soccer (or football if you’re a normal person) that is also being controlled via an iPhone. That’s right. An iPhone. More »

Konnichi wa, Jinra-san desu! Boy, do I have a puresento (present) for you. Actually, since I’m feeling extra nice, I’ve got two. The first one is Rekuru, our new Japanese entertainment site. Aside from Ningin, Rekuru will be your destination for the best in anything from Anime to Zen. The second one is, you guessed it — the Ningin Japan-a-thon. In support of Rekuru’s launch, we’ve got a special schedule filled with blog posts dedicated to The Land of the Rising Sun. More »

Have we learned nothing from our experiences with the Roomba? Samsung is set to release a new high tech robot vacuum called the “Tango” in the near future. The scary part isn’t the fact that this little guy costs between $400-600, it’s that it contains a camera and software for identifying objects! More »

Nissan took a page out of the lives of bees and fish when it designed the Eporo. While these little guys are not yet big enough to hold a family of four, they’re the first step in revolutionizing driver-less cars. More »
From Ziggytek: Robots from Nagoya, Japan cook up a bowl of ramen noodles in under two minutes, serve 80 bowls of noodles a day and when not in business, perform a show of spinning plates for the customers. Bet you’ve never seen that before. The video is a must see and reminds us of the quirky movements and enjoyable comedy of our beloved Wall-E. More »
From Ziggytek: Canal City Mall of Fukuoka, Japan is way ahead of most nations when it comes to robotics and this latest one is nothing new. Alsok’s Guard Robot D1 multi-tasks pretty well. It acts as a tour guide during the daytime and helps out visitors in a range of four languages(Japanese, English, Chinese, Korean) in the mall at night. More »

Netbooks are all the rage right now. This is especially true of designer netbooks. I’ve seen Vienna Tam work with HP to produce some as promo from her fashion line. I’ve seen artists and athletes come out with their own design. Naturally, Japanese companies are going to get in on this and make the most adorable and cutest ones - like this Rilakkuma (relax bear) model. And it could be all yours for about $800 US!

From Ziggytek: Robots have been taking over Japan, from the Noodle making cook to drug dealing hospital helpers, but the six legged octopus robot (six legged octopus?) has to be one of the coolest robot yet. It looks like something out of the Transformers movie, does tricks, and even dances. Creepy yet amazing. (Check out the videos after break, they’re worth it) More »

From Ziggytek Blog: The Japanese have done it again. This time they’ve managed to create a robot that can make noodles in 2 minutes. Momozon Robot Rame was created by Yoshihira Uchida, who owns the noodle shop he works in. His robot allows customers to choose from over 40 million flavor combinations. More »

According to the internet, quite literally the entire internet, the most popular male kpop star is Xiah Junsu of DBSK. It’s actually not even close. DBSK is just way more popular than any other boy group in general. I would kinda agree with that without looking at any stats.

You have to wonder what the producers of Suicide Pact, a new Korean horror movie, was thinking. The issue of suicide comes up several times a month on Ningin which is way too often for my liking. So why romanticize it by making a movie about it? It’s hard to judge the movie without first seeing it first but remember how a bunch of terrorist movies got pushed back after 9/11? You would think people should be sensitive here considering a former president committed suicide in this country.

Today is a day for the cute and weird…though mostly cute. I think most people would agree with me when I say that anything panda equal cute automatically. Even this robot panda which is OMG SO CUTEEEE!!

There’s definitely a double standard here. People could care less if Americans celebs does the sexy routine, but when Asian artists do it, they’re sluts. You expect traditional Asian media to preach this, but no so much Asian bloggers. If you click through and look at the actual video, it’s not any worst than what Britney or Pussycat Dolls do in their video. Chae Yeon may be 30 but, hey great for her that she still looks that great at 30.

I was in the kitchen cooking when I heard something about a new robot from Japan on the TV. While I was like yeah, yeah, yeah Japan puts out dozens of those things, I still shrill like a little child when I see their robots. So I mosey on into the living room and my mouth drops down to my knees in complete awe! More »

Estimated to be done by 2014, South Korea will construct the world’s first robot theme park. This news article states that it will be in two Korean cities: Incheon and Masan. This will be a $530 million project.
I guess robotic lovers in South Korea will be happy when this project is done. I, for one, don’t particularly care much about robotics, but I sure wouldn’t mind visiting this place at least once.
Some Asian robotics developer from Ontario, Canada named Le Trung has created a fembot he named Aiko. This geek claims that Aiko is his bitch. No just kidding (or maybe not). He said that Aiko is his idea of a perfect woman. He even shelled out his own cash (some $20K) to build her. Dude, $20K can get you a lot of escort services, blowjobs and comic books. Why waste it on an android who speaks like my GPS device?
Aiko responds to touch. If you grab her robo-titties, she’ll slap you in slow motion and say, “I do not like it when you touch my breasts!”. Apparently robo bitch here can do more than just letting her owner fill her up. She can be your personal assistant by performing a range of tasks like opening the door, reporting the weather condition, canceling your appointments and giving you directions. I bet she can even serve you delicious home cooked meals. Ok, I change my mind about her. Where can I order one pronto?
One last question, if she is that super. Why is she in a wheelchair? More »

In case you haven’t heard, we’re partners with the New York Anime Festival! This is our biggest event partnership so far and so we felt something special was needed to promote it. Well, the 7 Days, 7 New Bloggers special worked out so well for us, we decided to do 8 Days of Anime (the number 8 is lucky in many Asian cultures). For 8 days, starting on Thursday September 18th, we will be posting at least two articles a day about something Anime related. We’re hoping that if we hyped up Anime enough online, you’ll be all hyped up for the real world event in NYC. In addition to articles, we’re also doing a roundtable discussion for the first time on Ningin where bloggers and members get a chance to share their opinions on a particular anime topic. Also joining as part of this 8 Days of Anime special are two very good friends of Ningin, Xorsyst.com & Otakuden.com, because we love working with good people and they have very interesting websites.
So here’s a list of planned articles which is more or less solid: More »
